Ok, Ive been concidering buying an oil catch can for the supra but not really sure what advantages/disadvantages it has on my motor. I also dont know where i would connect the lines to if i was to get it and do the install. I've seen the inside of the throttle body on the supra and can tell its kinda oily and id imagine that these kinda deposits is what the catch can collects... just not sure. anyone got any idea's?

waste of time and IMO only clutters up the engine bay even more.

Hey shaeff, i got one for ya... You know the space between where the air filter is, and where the upper intercooler pipe enters the fender right? The spot where the neck for the washer fluid reservoir is right? How bout removing the reservoir and placing the catch can in that spot? Id imagine it should be in a cold spot on the motor right? And in my personal opinion, it should be less lines to run.

PLace it there would be a pain to route the hoses. I would rather somewhere closer to the Cam covers where they PCV pipes come out of.

i tried to keep the lines located in cooler places as well, but as long as the can is in a cool place, you should be fine. :) that looks like it'll work well.

Best one I've seen is made for the LS3 V8.

Has a "basket" designed to help catch/condense the oil vapor, and allows you to trap about a quart of oil before you need to dump it.

That being said, I'm going to have to just build my own I've decided.

Something that combines a strut tower brace to the cowl and the PCV system at the same time....

Not exactly in the coolest location, but it will be cooler than the motor, and the oil vapor coming off the engine should condense in the pipes and be trapped before it's sucked into the intake pipe under vac. (Pre turbo inlet.)

I think A good spot would be where the charcoal canister is. Thats where I plan on putting mine when I got FFIM.

Thats where mine and many other people locate them. I have read that this is a bad location because the vapors will be too hot to condense if left that close to the exhaust. Better to be on the opposite side of the engine, or anywhere away from the exhaust.

For this to correctly work your supposed to route it back to pre turbo. I've seen guys use some vac pump or smog pump off of mustangs and commaros to pull the vapors thru catch cans so they don't have to do this. The one I seen off of a commaro was alot bigger than the one off of the mustang. Has anyone else tried this?

no, that's a very BAD place to put it. the catch can NEEDS to be cooler than the motor for the vapors to actually condense. read the post i linked above. the charcoal canister is right next to the exhaust manifold and turbo setup, which is extremely hot.

the can won't function nearly as well in that location, (if at all) as if you mounted it in a cooler location, like near the brake booster, or air filter.

one more time for those who don't seem to understand:

the catch can MUST be located in a cool place so that the vapors can actually condense, rather than just run right through it and back in through your vacuum source, which is most likely what it will do in the charcoal canister location.

think of it this way:

if you are boiling water, and you hold a pan above the pot, that's the same temperature as the pot of water. think of how little vapor will condense on it. now cool that pan, at least to room temperature. do the same thing. look how much more vapor condenses on that pan. (and remember it will be more with the catch can because it's a closed system)
