Oil burning + funny starting

Hey SM; got a couple minor questions that just kind of bug me because I want my car to be perfect.

After sitting for about 12 hours (dead cold) the car is a little hesitant to start. This really only started happening recently. When I 1st got it, it prob took 3 seconds of cranking to start, but it'd be perfectly consistant every time and fire right up after those 3 seconds. Now, its like 3 seconds, sputter, crank, sputter vroom. BUT after I go to work (short 5 hour days lately) which is 15 minutes from my house it'll fire right up in less then 1 sec when I go to leave. Could this be caused by poor quality gas or is something technically wong?

Also, and this is more a "I forgot which one it was" kind of question. My car has been reported burning a bit of oil under WOT. Not much, but enough to see pretty easily. It will do it if I rev the engine with quick punches of the throttle too in neutral. So I do not believe its turbo seals right? I run Amsoil 20W-50 synthetic.

Thanks all who help!

Sounds like the hard start may be an injector leaking down the pressure into a cylinder (or more). Then it takes more cranking to start cause the fuel pressure must come up. Before starting, the pump does not charge up the pressure in the 'on' position like some other cars.

I had a little problem with mine firing right up when cold as well. I dont really remember how many cranks it took, but it would stumble when stone cold until it ran for a minute or so and warmed up. I ended up cleaning my cold start injector,as is it was caked with black soot, and that eliminated the problem. Just something for you to check out.

Okay, I'll check that out thanks.

Could be a leaky injector; but I'll check the less complex stuff 1st.

I recently bought a 7m that had the same problem. Poor starting dead cold. Turns out it was the spark plug gap, about .15-.19 too big! I don't know who gapped the plugs, but they didn't know what the hell they were doing.
I regapped them and she starts right up now. I want to replace them with NGK platinums, but don't have the money.
Would I be shooting myself in the foot if I went with copper plugs?

No there are lots of people running coppers.. Mine work fine.. Just have to replace them sooner.. Search the forum for the plug #'s there out here somewhere..
