BUT, I cant finds tires... They are a set of toyota Supra wheels that are 16X8 fronts and 16X9 rears... The price is good, the condition of the wheels are great, BUT: I cant find a wheel to fit... I want a 275/40ZR16 tire, and tehy jsut dont make it... I've been to four different E-tire stores, and no such creature exists... The only 275's Ive found for a 16 inch rim are truck tires! Does anyone know where I can find these tires, or if they even MAKE them?

God, these would've been great sleeper wheels... Im so bummed.......

I currently run a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 245/50-16 on my 89 with Stock rims. This gives me incredible traction, some height so Im not whining out in first geat before I get to the crosswalk across an intersection. Also most importantly at freeway speeds during rain Im at what I feel is the limit to the width of the tread for preventing premature hydroplaning. There is a limit where the wider the tire is the more it can work against you especially in handling. I do run a set of thick sway bars and poly bushings to keep my car flat in the turns and rely on my tires to do to the rest. Another thing, on my car at the stock ride height, theres no way I could run a wider tire without gouging them going over dips, and rubbing the springs during hard cornering.

Geezer, I just need a wider tire to handle what the car has to put down... I have 245/45ZR16s on there now... And I just spin them off all day... It sucks when you punch it, and the motor gets loud, the RPMs race up, and you pretty much dont go anywhere, just make smoke...

Joe, I know TT wheels are the way to go, but have you tried dealing with some of the MKIV owners lately? jesus... LOL... I've tried half a dozen times to get some MKIV wheels, and its ALWAYS something... It's just getting frustrating... And these wheels are really nice... I was gunna get them for $300 plus shipping, which I think is a great deal... *for just the rims*

i dont know dude, i belie that 255 is the widest street tire available for 16", unless it is drag radials/slicks (my DR's are 315/40/16 mounted on Fd rims).

about the price if you hold of you can get TT wheels + tires for 500-600 and if tires are nice that is better deal.

other option yoiu have is get there wheels and use 2 16" for dr's/slicks and throuhg other 2 on the fron, then find someone with crashed TT and get 2 17" TT rims.

16 front 17 back would look good imo.

well just an idea

btw i am runing into same problem as i wanted some 305/315 tires in the back and the dont make it 17"

Get rims you want to drive with everyday, and get something for the back to race with and put them on when need be, The RX7 rims can be had for cheap. We had a good thread on the drag section on SF.

Dan
Search, they talked about tires size in inches.

255 are the widest production tire available for 16 inchers. IIRC, pirelli has some special order sizes as the older lambo's ran really wide 15-16 inch rears. Might try searching for that, or picking up some 255 R compound tires. I'd avoid the rain, and know they won't last, but they would give you the traction upwards of drag radials without the cornering issues. I've considered this option for a while now as well to avoid buying larger rims.

Kumho makes 265/45/16 in their Ecsta V700, V710 and VictoRacer V700.
Hoosier makes a 275/45/16 drag slick(R3 S03 is on sale at tire rack for $59).

i would say hold out and get the tt wheels. for traction reasons, but i have 275 sumitumohes(iam sure thats not spelled right)with a 220 treadwear on the back of my 88 and she's all over the place as soon as the boost comes up, but the meat sure looks good.

Ken, where or who can I find to widen my wheels? Those 17's I have would be great if they were 17X10s and not 17X8s... Gimme a link to a wheel widening company...

Thanks...

Try these guys they are well known in the muscle car business. I bought my set of wide stock type Mopar wheels for my 68 Charger from these folks. I know they widen steel wheels, not sure about aluminum so if they dont do it ask them if they know someone who does.
