Haha, If I remember right from my brother who just got his license, KY now has the graduated license/permit program. So I think there is a permit, intermediate license and then full licenses.
With the permit, it is the same as most places; must have a 21+ in pass seat, curfew, not more then 1 unrelated person in the car, and must hold for a minimum of 180 days.
Int license is the same sans the 21+ passenger.
So no full blown license until you're 17 if I understand it right.

I know you said you were going to drive like a grandma for a while... That's good, because remember with your permit, if you are convicted of a moving traffic violation, you have to wait 6 months more.

Oh and Good luck with your test!

Haha thanks Drew and everyone else.

I have to turn a paper in saying I have good grades, wait a week, they send it to the DMV, I take the test and get my permit.

6 months later I get my intermediate license (I can drive by myself, but with certain rules)

6 months later I get my license, and can officially go wherever the hell I want to (Suck my balls state of Kentucky I'm moving out of your stupid state!)

You people have it made. We have to get our "learner's" lisence which we keep for 2 years. this means you have to have someone over the age of 25 with their full lisence. Curfew driving times etc. Then you take a road test and become a "New" driver. This lisence you keep for another 2 years. You can have one passenger unless they are family and then you can fill the car cause its alright if you kill your family when you drive like an idiot I guess. Also must have 0 blood alcohol etc and basically any accident gets your lisence removed and you have to start from the beginning of the "New" driver term again. Each time you get/change your lisence it costs about $100 also. Talk about SHITTY!

In Alabama, you can legally start driving at 15, and drive by yourself the day you turn 16.

But either way it's Alabama and nobody gives a shit in Alabama because it's Alabama.

Did I mention Jay?

Congrats and happy birthday Mister!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys have it so easy over there... we have to have our Learners for a minimum of 6 months and do 100 hours supervised driving (logged in a log book, which you hand in when you go for your driving test). If you pass that, you get your P1 license, which you hold for 18 months... There are now passenger and curfew restrictions on that license, and you also cannot drive turbo or V8 vehicles. You also cannot go over 90kmph. After that is your P2 license (Same restrictions as above, yet you can go 100kmph), which you hold for a further 12 months before going for a test for your full, unrestricted license.

You guys have crazy license rules. You can get your permit here the day you turn 15 if you want and your license the day you turn 16 if you choose. No curfews or crazy rules either.

I've been driving since I was eight and I didn't need no stinkin license. I was driving a diesel with a fourty foot trailer on it when I was fourteen. I used to drive it from Birmingham to Atlanta every other week. I drove a vega from Alabama to California sitting on a pillow when I was nine, and I couldn't care less if you believe me or not. I was following my stepdad while he drove a Uhaul. Licenses are way over rated.

Happy Birthday Matt. I hope your grades are good enough to get your permit. With all the time you spend polishing things, you can't be getting in much studying. Good luck with the test.

Ya, and you know what? We still have roads full of stupid fucknuts behind the wheel. People who turn right from the left lane, drive at night with their high beams on all the time, forget to use their turn signals, tailgate, talk on the cell phone while putting on makeup AND driving 25 over the limit, etc, etc, etc.

Here in Alberta, you get your learners permit at 14, partial license at 16, and full license at 18.

Learners you need someone over 18 with a full license.

Partial is fine though, only difference is less points before you lose your license and 0 alcohol limit.

These are new rules of course, since they were introduced after I turned 16, at that time 16 was full license.

I was talking to a buddy of mine's grandpa a few years back, and the subject came up. Direct quote, "Driver's license? They just give you one when you buy your first car. That's the way it worked when I was your age, sonny!"

Mind you, this guy is old enough that his first car used the pedals on the floor to shift gears and needed 2 people to start it.

In Ontario you have G1, G2 and G.

G1: No BAC, drive with licenesed person with x number years experience, no 400 series highways. This lasts for a year or 8 months if you do drivers education.

G2: No BAC. I think you can get your G right after but nobody does.

G: Full license...go nuts.

Yeah, KY just switch to this graduated system last year I think. Before that, you got your permit at 16 by passing a written test. 180 days later, you were a licensed driver, assuming you passed the driving test. I got my permit the morning of my 16th and my license exactly 180 days later. I couldn't wait...

Oh and I don't know how it slipped by on the first post, I meant to wish you a happy b-day. lol

16 years old?

You watch your mouth, young man! ;)

Get the stupidity done in empty parking lots. NOT the highway. No matter how much you may think otherwise, you suck at driving still :D
