BHG is the worst scenario...did you replace the rad cap yet? The gurgle behind the dash only indicates there is air in the system...a leak anywhere in the cooling system can cause that. Get the cooling system pressure tested.

Make sure you have the right rad cap (there are two types). With the cap on, squeeze the top hose and make sure nothing squirts into the overflow bottle.

Engine up to temp, or cold? I know, I'm not real motor savvy! LOL!:biglaugh:

Okay, I just tried it cold, and coolant squirts back into the overflow bottle. That's not good, right?:icon_conf

What's the pressure rating on your cap?

Err,... it's a Prestone,:icon_redf and it just has a 0.9 stamped on it. Now is about the time I should be going to Schucks and buying a Stant, right?!:icon_razz

That's your problem then. On the cap, measure the distance from the rubber plunger to the top of the cap, then compare with the distance from the top of the rad neck, to the ledge down in the rad neck.

If the cap is the wrong type it will be too short and the rubber plunger won't reach the ledge.

You have a 91 right? If you put in an aftermarket rad it will need a cap from an 86-88. If you buy the cap from Toyota they will give you a new style one that won't fit.

0.9 = 0.9 bar which is 13psi.

Well, the length of the plunger and the shoulder of the filler neck, look to be the same. But the cap never did seem to fit correctly. I;e it didn't seem to seat correctly, and it was not straight when seated (9 0'clock-3 0'clock)
Heading over to Schucks to buy a Stant. We'll see how that works.
Thanks for the help guys.
