Oh Oil, Why won't you just stay where you belong?

The past few days of driving my supra I've noticed oil coming out the exhaust. Burning, not dripping :)

The oil will be present when I am rolling to a stop and at idle. That is the only time I notice it. Doesn't mean it is not there other times, but that's only when I see it.

The engine has great compression ~150 on all 6 and has a very recent rebuilt (~5k) This is the first time I've noticed smoking like this.

This is also the first time I've ran this new (to me) CT26. I know NOTHING of its history other than it has a turbonetics built exhaust housing.

I don't know enough about these things to diagnose based on symptoms, but seeing as the oil started with the new turbo it really seems to point to the turbo.

What I'd like to know is if the symptoms fit a 'bad' turbo.

?

Thanks :)

How many miles have you put on it? I put on a used turbo and I filled the drain line with oil and let it sit upside down (had no idea how long oil hadn't been in it), oil came out the exhaust side and I did get the exact same symptoms as you, but it did go away...

I've only put about 100 miles on this turbo, but as I said, I have NO idea of its prior life. It could have 200k on it for all I know *shrug*

When these turbos go out they love to smoke like most turbo's, if you don't know the miles, then you don't know if it has 150K 67K 210 k? So if I were you take it to a local shop ( if you have one ) have them check it out, or you can just get another one ( or upgrade ) * Don't just by a upgraded one without buying fuel injectors, fuel pump, FPR :D and maybe a Lexus AFM, : if you run low boost you will not need those just be careful.

Hey Justin

yep, I concuuurr..! If you up grade I highly recommend Performance Techniques, there's nothing but good words about them.I had mine done with them, they did an incredible job, just ask any one here on the "Forums" and read the reviews on this shop, there was a recent thread about turbo's and there shop was mentioned, they did mine for $475 with a 57 trim wheel.

"Oh" by the way I plug in the c.c. you did for me just last night,..., all I can say is "HOT damm!!!"" "Hell ya!! that's what I'm talking about!!

Thanks it looks fabulous!!!

I concur that you should get the 57 trim.

If you think its the turbo thats going bad they usually smoke on deceleration so rap it out in 3rd gear up to a comfortable rpm and let the engine do the braking. Decelerating under load will make your exhaust smoke like a chimney if the seals are going bad on that turbo.

So Justin, did you conclude that the turbo was infact your issue?

I'm seeing the same issue, and am leading to that direction now that the smoking is getting worse, I am able to see it on deceleration.

I think it is the turbo strongly enough to replace it. I will be getting a 57trim from Driftmotion very soon (within two weeks)

I will report back then.

Ahah.

Its definitely the turbo. I pulled it off today to send it down to California for its nice fancy upgrade and decide to see what the shaft looks like.

Wow. It wiggles from side to side like nobody's business.

Crazy.

Your issue may be the turbo, but I just put a rebuilt 57trim from Driftmotion on my 7mgte and I still get smoke when I come to a stop. I will also get some on accel and decel at times. I rebuilt my motor about 3k miles ago and the compression is fine. I am leaning towards a catch can for my problem.
