Some of you may remember my 89 2jz build. Well, that ended because I gave up and moved on. Too many issues. Part of me was happy that I did, and part of me still kicks myself, but we all live and learn. As a follow-up on that thread, she runs well. I wish the future owners the best and hope she never gets put into a yard.

As for me, I couldn't stay away regardless of how difficult it can get with these cars. Yes, that's right... I bought a second one! Enter - my 'new' 1987 n/a chassis for $600 along with two 7mge's and a w58. I happened to get lucky quite a bit with this car, which I take as a very good sign. I picked up a rod-knocked 7mgte for $100, an r-154 for $150, and began my scheming. :naughty:

After several month's she finally lives. I could've half-assed it, but I decided to full-ass it instead! Fully machined and hot-tanked block, fully rebuilt head, new bottom end bearings, and all clearances checked. All in all, the machining ran about $870, and the parts... well, I haven't tallied up the damages, but most of it is stock with the ability to go further down the road. ARP head studs, Greddy 1.5mm mhg, stock 440 injectors, walbro 255 fuel pump, stock ct-26, home-made hard pipes (for now), 3" megamouth DP to a 3" megan racing catback, stock clutch with an aftermarket pressure plate, and stock n/a chassis differential. The n/a to turbo faq came in handy during this second trek through the valley of 'what the fuck have I gotten myself into'. :biglaugh:

My plans in the near future are an apexi avcr (the very same from my 89), apexi safc II, maft basic, slightly larger turbo, 550's, a better clutch, some aftermarket gauges to better see what I have going on, a remote oil cooling system, installing my tein coilovers, and paint/body work. So far it's been a long road and I have a long way to go still... bring it on!

Supras - you have to be insane to love these things. I guess that's why it's called Supramania. :icon_razz

Thank you to everyone who has helped me this far, especially Nytefire, Soundslikesemi87, ForceFedSupra, WhiteZombie, and Applesauce. You guys pulled me into this head first and have helped immensely ever since. (bro-hugs) lmao

And now for pictures! Maybe some video. Always more to come!

I can't wait to get the tein HA's on her and see what it looks/feels like! :icon_bigg

Oh, this wasn't my first! :naughty:

But I finally got to replace the wiring harness, and it cured all my issues. All ground issues, oil psi gauge works now, afm works now, and I took it out to a local supra mini meet today. I... love... this... car. Runs strong with no issues. Finally, I have my Supra back. :icon_bigg

Soon to come, videos and pics of the progress. Hope to be making a stable 400 in the next few months.

On the Megamouth DP? The gasket fit perfectly, no fitment issues what-so-ever. I will try to get some videos tomorrow once we put on the full 3" exhaust, but running open DP today sounded amazing. A lot of drone on the highway, but then again I cruise at 3K rpm at 65mph. Then I'm at 75mph at 3200. I can't wait to see what she can do once I actually get some more boost in her with this n/a differential.

As for boost creep/spike, I do not know yet. It felt extremely stable, but I did not do much boosting considering this was her first time out and about. Once I finish hooking up the avcr/boost gauge I will report back.

Ok so now I have my 3" Megan Racing catback on and the car sounds amazing! One problem though... I'm driving home from WhiteZombie's house and 5 minutes from my house... the driveshaft begind acting like it's binding. I have really bad vibrations at lower rpm's and when decelerating, and when I pull in the driveway there is transmission fluid leaking from the output shaft area of the transmission... I will check it out later tonight/first thing in the morning if possible. I hope I don't need a new driveshaft or output seal.. we shall see. Maybe it'll be an excuse for a one-piece...

Well, I got under it this morning and I am able to move the driveshaft around with about 1" of play from side to side. The center bearing is COMPLETELY shot. I have ordered a shaftmasters Aluminum 1 piece.

http://shaftmasters.com/toyota-supra-mk3-driveshaft3.html

http://shaftmasters.com/toysupmk33.html

They had one on the shelf so I grabbed it while I could. So far she drives normally, but the vibration shows around 20-30mph, and 40-50mph, but beyond that it is fine. I can't wait to get the new ds! Only 12lbs!

I will be posting pics of the install and after videos of driving her.

BTW - anyone want to calibrate my tps? It's either on, or it's off... and it sucks at low rpm's/speeds. Other than that, It's been 160 miles of awesomeness! I thought I heard some tapping in the head, so I drove it by The Head Shop (they built my head), and Chris went over everything with me. From what I can tell, it sounds perfect. I'm just being paranoid... X p Oil psi is perfect after the new oil squirter bolts and shimming the oil pump/bypass near the filter, no overheating, and the head stud retorque is coming up in a few days. Stock clutch with aftermarket pressure plate feels good so far. I definitely need a SS clutch line... I have a small oil leak, and it looks like it's from the rear main. It may be due to a little overfilling on the oil, but we shall see. It gets less every day. If it continues, then I will replace the rear main once I get the Southbend Clutch kit.

So the Shaftmasters 1 piece arrived yesterday afternoon while I was at work. So my current list of pieces to install:

1) Aluminum DS
2) Prosport Oil Gauge
3) Mechanical Boost Gauge (for now)
4) Marlin Crawler shifter seat and lower piece
5) New tranny side piece for the speedo cable

So I woke up early today and got some things done. I installed the Shaftmaster's 1 piece and the speedo cable. I am very happy to report that the speedo works great, and the DS is now smooth and perfect. NO MORE VIBRATIONS! I took it for a quick run around the block and... wow... I love how quick this car is with just the intake and exhaust. I can't wait to turn up the boost and get some clean hardpipes with a nice fmic!

For those thinking of getting the Shaftmaster's Aluminum 1 piece... SO WORTH THE $349 shipped! It took me, literally, 10 minutes to install. And the difference is very noticeable for me.

I will post pictures and video as soon as I get some. Possibly tomorrow.

Some of the fastest drag supra's had stock piping BTW. Anything over 2.25 is pointless and makes the car more laggy. i would just upgrade the intercooler.

Wow, you got this car up and running in a heartbeat! Have my Supra a lil' over 8 months now and it's still not running! A lot of members on here make it seem so damn easy! LOL. I really need to start a build thread so I can get some help. The bearing measurements is what really confuses me.

Your car looks amazing imo, plain and simple just how I like it. Do you plan on staying wingless? I'll trade you trunk lids. :naughty:

Oh and thank you for the driveshaft link, you just saved me some $$.

what size tires do you have on the mkiv rims? and did you use spacers in the front? they seem to be more flush that other cars i've seen them on. great job gettin it running so quick! i know the feeling swapping a 7mgte in for a 7mge. mine's been running for about 4 months now, so much fun. good luck with the rest of it.

It would have been running sooner had I had a better cash flow situation. After doing the 2jz swap, this was cake. And the next one will be even faster as long as money allows. :biglaugh:

If you need help/advice, let me know or check some of the build threads around here. That's how I've learned EVERYTHING I know about these cars.

Thank you! I am very happy with how it turned out. I will be putting on the Tein HA Coilovers here as soon as I have the $$$ to worry about an alignment. I plan on staying wingless, it really strikes my fancy.

You're welcome with the DS, it is an amazing piece. My 0-60 seems a little insane for only showing 7-8 psi on the boost gauge. She's MUCH quicker than I ever expected without so many mods.

Thanks! The wheels are the N/A MKiv rims, no idea on size. I'll get that later tonight for you. I know they are 16x8 in the front and 16x9 in the rear. I can't wait to see how she sits with the Teins. :naughty:

By the way guys, I was harassed today for the FIRST TIME EVER about my exhaust. I have never had any officer say anything about any of the exhausts on any of my cars. Including an obnoxious civic, a glass-packed wrangler, a 3" no muffler supra, and an open header v8 nova. Then again it's end of the month and she appeared to have a new guy with her. She wrote me a ticket for no inspection instead after I argued that it wasn't loud at all. Which, with the Megamouth DP and 3" Megan catback, it is amazingly quiet for no cat. I will get some good video when I can. Having a little trouble finding a shop willing to pass me on the visual inspection for no cat.

And before you say I'm being cheap, apparently the CXRacing Megamouth DP and the Megan Catback both made provisions to delete a cat.... so they bolt up perfectly with no room for one... :nono: I will be buying a high-flow cat and having it welded into the stainless steel DP as soon as I can.
