I'm in class so I don't have sound but that looked pretty retarded to me. He shot him in the back with a tazer as he was walking away. Even if the guy was going to run, the cop already made the ticket up and knows who you are and where to find you.

^Exactly. The guy who got the ticket showed no signs of being hostile.

You don't taser some one for not signing the ticket.

Of course you do. If you want to be fired and go to jail. On top of being sued.

signing a ticket does not admit guilt, it just shows that you acknowledge the ticket and will take care of it.

You guys slay me. Signing does not admit guilt but it's sign or be arrested. What the guy did by not following commands was resist that arrest. The cop acted as expected and within the scope of the law.

That aside, I recently walked away with almost $8K in profit from TASR. Took all of a few months. If I were you I'd buy some now...

Yes. Failure to comply.

Although I think jumping to the taser at first chance, and not explaining to the driver what he did, was completely out of line.

Well Will, since you're 33 obviously going on 15 I'm not surprised. Allow me to explain it to you. Signing a citation is not an admission of guilt but is a promise to appear. Refusal to do that is a crime. What I see in the video is another moron who, even though he presumably has a driver's license, doesn't know this. He's also belligerent during the encounter which makes him a bigger moron. I also see a solitary LEO on a country road with multiple persons in the vehicle even if one is a youngster. I may have given the guy more time to comply but the situation was clearly escalating. Maybe he'll be less stupid next time. You can bet the cop won't be losing sleep over this.

Time and again I see posts on this forum from people who have no idea of the law (or their rights under it) and who have zero experience in law enforcement, yet are quick to offer up their expert opinion.

well thank you for your ever so kindly on the words that I'm going on 15 ..:nono:

i just dont think you should have to sign the ticket, I think its a messed up law that they can arrest you.
even if your completely respectful, an refuse to sign it shouldnt give the cops a right to arrest you.. thats b/s....

Sorry JJ, but on this one, no matter if the officer is "in the scope of the Law", I think its wrong how he handled the situation.

As mentioned before....

The officer has the guys information.

The guy just wanted an explanation. Easy situation to diffuse.

If he doesn't sign...

Let him go, arrest later.

By tazing, you've just escalated the situation by making the two other people histerical.

Now you're really up the creek without that paddle and you're still a lonely officer in the middle of BFE.

Excessive use of power. The officer needed to explain what the fuck he was doing and why. He just said hands behind your back!!!

If he simply told the gentleman that he was not admitting guilt by signing, but simply agreeing to attend a court date there would have been no issue. Instead the officer freaked out and tased him.

Should've been handled differently, but I don't think any huge penalty should be dealt to the officer or the guy who "evaded arrest" or WTF-ever.
