Hey guys, I'm wondering if the OEM Momo steering wheel is a direct replacement for my 89, or if it needs a specific conversion hub?

I can get one, but it's ONLY the steering wheel, no hub, I don't wanna drop money into it and not have it fit...

Any ideas, guys?

btw, searches dont bring up anything relevant, just 10+ pages of momo rims, or other momo steering wheels...

Don't know if 89 has airbag but if not it should fit. Got one from Jarco that was a direct fit for mk3 supra even came with the momo hub. The aftermarket momo hub for 86-92 should fit also with the oem momo wheel. I can't remember the part number but you can check it out on ebay.

A word of caution, you will need to modify and rewire your horn to make it work since it is not a direct fit wire wise for the factory horn.

Sorry for bumping a "kinda" old thread, but I was going to make a new topic regarding this steering wheel and decieded this is a good place to post it after searching.

I have the OEM MOMO wheel from a JDM supra R and the only thing preventing me from installing it is everyone telling me that if I change my wheel (i have a 1991) that I will not pass the inspection of my car since the 91s came with an airbag. Of course without inspection I cant drive the car. So I was wondering is there a way to get around that? I hope its an ok question to ask.

I changed the clusters so the airbag button on the dash doesnt show but if it lights up, I dunno if itll show through. I also have the 1989 wheel housing which is smaller than the 91 I have to change it so it wont look it like was modified. But I dunno what else to do. I just get responses that they'll run a computer in, find it and fail you.

Any help? Id really like to put on my wheel :(

You can swap it out.

All cars made before 1995 IIRC do not need to retain the airbag or something of the sort, At least in California, Check your local laws.

Keep in mind. If your car came equipped with an airbag, and you get into an accident. You will not get your insurance money for injuries to YOU. Keep that in mind.

its not like the steering wheel is a hard thing to install...why not leave the airbag wheel on and get it inspected and then when you get home switch it out... what do you have to do that once a year?

probably your best bet to be sure.

^ I was guessing that myself, but I was told the airbag might deploy upon trying to remove it and getting another airbag can be pricey. Im not sure if its true or just trying to scare me into not touching it. Im kinda dumb when it comes to that stuff.
