All pros.
Higher octane prevents detonation. With lower octane you are more likely to harm the engine at higher boost. Always go with the good stuff:icon_bigg
The con of course is the price.
I've only ever used 93 in my car.

smells like an f'ing bubble bath after youre done running shell. i do know that 87 is more prone to detonation, so running an NA on that (on certain occasions) might change your power output a little. however, running that on a turbo (doesnt matter cause we're NA) would be a bit more dangerous, due to the more unstable nature of the fuel.

A related question, does anyone know how good Arco and 76 gas is? They always have the cheapest prices around here, so I'm suspicious...

yeah i know that arco's gas is pretty bad, my auto teacher would always tell me that he wouldnt use that gas if he was stranded in the dessert. but i dont know about 76.

Most gas stories are myth. The modern refining industry does not work like most think. Go see all the different fuel trucks pull up to the one refinery in your area. There are mandated standards that are met. And local jurisdiction often has standards and does samples too. The difference in gas is the major brand name stations often add more detergent, which is a good thing.

well another downside of running to much octane is carbon buildup, higher octane gas requires a higher temprature to ignite and burn, an N/A isnt taking full advantage of that so the fuel doesnt 100% burn and leaves more carbon deposits then say 87. thats also the reason it feels like it has better response, because its easier to burn.

well....this is whats ive herd.

No way. I tried 76 and it sent me running, straight back to Chevron. Response, dropped off, with 76.

If you think the owner operator is doing something with the fuel he BUYS from the Chevron/BP/Shell/Marathon/Conoco/Phillips/Texaco/Exxon, or which ever refinery he is buying from, report it to the local inspector. Then it will be tested, and you can see first hand what a placebo is.

The owner could be dirty though.
