so i was out at 4:00am on the back country road to my condo and i had the fastest run ever in my car, well it had done it once before were the hose coming from the engine to another hose that went to the heater core popped off and sprayed a shit load of antifreeze out the hose, well i popped the hood the second i pulled in the driveway when the heater wasnt blowing hot air and there was steam coming from under the hood, well the hose did pop off and that wast he problem yet again but this time down were the headers connect to the rest of the exhaust something was on FIRE!!!!!!:aigo: i had my garage door opening so i ran and grabbed the bottle of part antifreeze part water and dumped it down there and put out the fire, what could have been burning down there? and it was only burning for at most a minute more like 30 seconds, do u think if i fix the hose again and flush and refill my coolant the car will be ok? cause besides the loss of coolant and the small fire the car was running fine and it didnt overheat cause it had only been spraying coolant for a minute and there is still some in the system, the res wasnt even empty. what are the suggestions when i check out my car tommarow afternoon. man this sucks, i have terrible luck with these cars.

You have to ask yourself "Why does the hose keep popping off" and then go from there.

^ what he said.

Just because all of those bad events happened doesn't mean your engine is deff. toast. Just try fixing it, and make sure the hose is on good and tight. Blowing off hoses doesn't mean a BHG, does it?

my old monte carlo used to do that alot. i took and cleaned all the hose fittings with steel wool and sandpaper. reattached them with wider hoseclamps and it never happend again. thought i cooked my engine. take your time and do it carefully. you might just even want to replace hoses while your at it. as far as a cooked motor, im not sure. drove my 7m up a mountian with the temp needle almost all the way at the top. that was last summer. hg is still intact. may have just been my lucky day.

I popped off the coolant on the underside of the intake manifold between the #1 & #2 runners and the gauge spiked after 30 seconds and I drove it maybe the other 45 seconds home and everything was fine....flush, fill, burp....good as new.

the fire you saw could have been oil from your valve covers leaking down... this happened on my 87... check to see if you have any oil in your spark plug galley... if so tighten your valve covers... I usually tighten/check mine once a week...
