Noobish sounding nitrous?

Should I buy nitrous for my supra?

I have put some thought into it and was thinking that after I get my exhaust and clutch I think I'm going to buy a nitrous kit. My reasoning behind it was if I have already built my car to handle nitrous why not buy a kit and hook it up. I plan to run nitrous in the future anyway so why not buy it now. I just wanted to get some opinions first. Do you think it's a good idea? I know it's not the normal path of upgrades but nether is building the car the day you get it.

what kit, what jets are you planning on running, are you going to tune after you install, what are your overall goals, theres more info needed. oh and the most important, why do you want to run nitrous.

prob. Zex, yes I'm tuning with a maft pro, just a 50 shot for now then later i'll go more, overall goals over 500+, and I want to run it to spool a large turbo later on.

I've heard something about Nitros helping to cut down on turbo lag on bigger turbos. Don't know if that's so true, but if you tune it right, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I was only half joking in my post but the serious side is it's damn fun and the temptation is so great it's good to have a backup bottle just in case you actually end up racing someone fast!! (nothing worse than "click phhhh RICH" )

Nitrous gets bashed, and people say that nitrous destroys engines, but its all crap. I'm not a huge fan of nitrous, mostly because of the image of it just being a power shortcut. But, Nitrous is an excellent power adder when properly used. Do your research.

Make sure your fuel system is up to par enough to support the nitrous. Make sure you choose the correct jetting. Nitrous does not kill engines, Lean conditions due to improperly matched jetting and A/F tuning does.

Do it right, and you can give "nawsss" a half decent name in the community, just ignore the bashers and do your thing. I worked with nitrous on the dyno in school and the power that it adds is truly impressive. Good luck and DO YOUR RESEARCH.

p.s. to the guy who isnt sure why nitrous helps spool big turbos, youre basically mashing an assload of air and fuel into that cylinder, like boost, and it makes for more exhaust volume which in turn spools that turbo up.

i wanted to use a nos setup up on my car. a sort of "i win" button with a nice easy 50shot or in and around for that high end pull....

im not sure if this is true or not...but from my research it helps cool combustion chamber temps so you can actually boost more. in my setup i want to program a few more psi when my nitrous is hit and from what i have read a simple 50 will get you far more than 50 horse.

Personally i have nothing against it. As stated its got a bad rep because people think its just works...its doesn't

you could call it "poor mans turbo" cause it essentially does the same thing and needs to be tuned as one. if you take a turbo bolt it on and then just put it to max boost with out the proper modifications you will have a nice shower or engine internals. same applies with nitrous

A part of the calculated power gain of nitrous is that it cools the incoming air. a 10 degree reduction of incoming air gives about a 1% increase in power... nitrous drops the incoming air temp about 60* so thats only 6% more power.

Running nitrous to run more boost is just too much at once, you'd have to hit the nos every time youre at full boost to be safe, and youre not going to find a bottle big enough or a budget to run that much nitrous.

If you want to run more boost, go higher octane fuel, or look into alcohol injection, or simply fine tune the vehicle.

My AVC-r has two settings... so you can jump from A to B by just backing out of the old one, and tabbing over real quick.

In all seriousness, I'd not go with the Zex kit. Why? Their kits are overrated, in my experience. I literally mean that - their 150 shot = anyone elses 100 shot.

I personally like Nitrous Express, for the price.

Make DAMN SURE your fueling system is up to snuff.

Nitrous does cool the incoming intake charge, allowing not only more oxygen into the combustion chamber, but allowing cooler air into the chamber, in order to prevent detonation.

Thanks that good to know. Nitrous Express was next in line for my picks of companies. By having my fuel system up to sniff do I need to/should I upgrade the fuel system first(fuel pump,and afpr) or just make sure all my stock fuel system is working perfect? thanks again for the info

Edit: anyone have any links to some really good (more then basic) turbo nitrous info. I haven't been able to find anything more then "can't just run nitrous and have a turbo" but there is obviously a way to do it. And I'm not going to do it until I know that I'm doing it right. thanks
