noob wiring question

Currently wanting to do a 1JZ conversion. Going from 7M to 1J

Background
I own 1986.5 Australian delivered MA70 (7M-GE)
I have recently purchased another Aus delivered 1986.5 MA70 that has been converted to a 1JZ-GTE

I like the colour of my car so I'm swapping the engines over

Problem
I've got the car apart and the massive loom is oh so gay. (Just in case, I'm not refferring to the engine loom that plugs into the ECU)

Do I need to swap over that loom? or can I keep my original loom there and plug it all up to the 1JZ??

Also any links to a conversion write up or similar would be awesome. Didn't see one int he stickies unfortunately

you just need the engine harness which unplugs near the ECU. and various body points in the engine bay. usually the engine harnesses are modified because its way easier than changing the body wiring

it really depends on how they wired it in.. hopefully they wired in the plugs from the old 7mge harness so its a plug and play affair.

you can check the build threads they might be of help, or even mine but i felt this portion was pretty straight forward

you wouldnt happen to know what needs to be modified on the engine harness do you?

I was under the impression that engine harness only connected to the ECU and if I were to use a JZA70 ECU it would be fine

if you have 2 86.5's and you want to bring one that has the running 1jz to the other then its engine harness should already be modified. unless its the difference between left and right hand drive then it needs to be extended but otherwise it should be the same.

there are body plugs apart of the harness as well as ECU plugs and misc body plugs such as the alarm etc. but most of the plugs you are removing are connected to the ecu or right next to it.

Ok I got another problem.

Did you upgrade from a 7M-GE or GTE??

Coz it seems my body wiring doesn't have a particular plug that connects to the engine

photos later

My body wiring lacks this big plug that connects to the engine near the fuse box

ok i got the plug connected to my loom. Cut it open and found which wires had been joined.

Was surprised to find that not all the wires on that plug were in use though.

I'll take a flick through the JZA70 TSRM but if anyone knows about that plug and what each individual wire does lemme know please

In the pic you have there the brown plug is for the hydrofan, and the big gray one is EA2. I can dig up the wires that are on that plug if you still need them.

don't "need" them but on the EA2 I am curious to know what goes where. As a few of the wires weren't in use.
So if you could dig up any info on them that would be great

Try to drive a 1jz vvti supra that like double or triple the impressions. and its pretty logical to assume that if you dont use the wires for the AC the AC wont work, but its just a few wires you can connect them very easily to make your ac work.

I will do that then.

You don't happen to have another pdf similar to the last with how to wire up the AC do you?

Searched that website and couldnt make out how to doit

There are links on the bottom of the first page of this thread try using them, i dont know what will work for you either 89+ or pre 89 plugs.

yeah me neither... *sigh*

Cant read wiring diagrams either, I'm a mech eng student and wasn't that great at electronics....

Anyone gimme a crash course on reading wiring diagrams?

Those are not really diagrams they are pretty simple PDFs that tell you what to do, just look at the wire colours of your harness and compare to the PDFs both for 89+ and pre 89 and you'll know what year you have. It already says which wires to connect you just crimp the right once if you decide not to solder.

I didn't find those,

I went to this website http://web.archive.org/web/20060323191804/www.1jz-gte.us/92Supra6.html

like the first one you showed me was nice and easy, but i checked that website and couldn't find where those wires went for the A/C
