Noisy/wobbly speedometer

My speedo cable is wobbly and squeaks alot. I thought there was just a thread made about this but I couldn't find it. I thought it talked about how to fix it without taking the gauge cluster out. Anyone have an idea?

I tried something like that but it didnt work. You are suposed to lubricate them with a graphite type lube.

I did that to mine...I did it twice, and let it soak overnight each time, and it has been silky smooth for over a year now. Mine would squeak CONSTANTLY, it gets way annoying.

i bought an entire cable assembly from toyota for about $100. (i get a good customer discount) it's nothing but silky smooth.

+1 for new cables!

Damn, i didnt know they were that expensive. I was expecting more like $60.

well, most commonly it's the small piece near the tranny that breaks. i just decided i wanted to replace the entire speedometer assembly, so i just did it. it's only $100! and well worth every penny in my opinion...

ive heard of people packing it full with white lithium grease. that dampens and lubricates, but i cant imagine it would flow better than a graphite-based lubricant or something like 10w30.
