I bought a used 89 mk3 a while back we have been trying everything to get it running no luck so far. I think it has something to do with the cars factory alarm system. Would this thing go into some kind of safe mode and not allow the car to start? how can I bypass this because I only have the key that unlocks the doors and cranks the car?

the unlocking of the door should disarm the system as that is what is the passive arming in this car.

Lock it to arm the theft deterant and unlock it to disarm it.

Usually the sensor in the door keyhole is bad.

Look at the bottom of this page and read some of the suggested threads. There are ways to completely do away with the stock alarm and the how to might be posted in them. I know it's on here somewheres. Good luck.

Usually, you can lock the door with the key, wait a few seconds, maybe thirty, and then unlock the door with the key and it should disable it.

Hey guys, im a newbie and have almost the opposite problem. I recently got my car painted and the morons painted the door handles too, I can no longer see the light around the key hole and the security system wont arm. Where would I find the sensors in the door? I read the manual and it doesnt say anything about it or I couldnt find a fuse for it. I did try the tricks as far as lock/ unlock it with the key on both doors and the trunk; no luck.
