Hey guys, I've got an 89 cressida that has barely any power until it warms up. I got it a few years back with a blown head gasket and i rebuilt the head and put a new head gasket and freshened up everything (new gaskets, plugs, plug wires, etc). Even back then i had noticed it had little power until totally warmed up, but its definitely gotten a lot worse. And lately it has been taking a long time to warm up as well. Once it warms up it runs like a champ.

I should also mention that it has always started and idled perfectly fine, with no issues or anything concerning. Oil has always looked good, doesnt smoke or anything. It just bogs down terribly when i drive it without fully warming it up. If i put the transmission into the ect-s mode and turn the overdrive off it slowly gets itself to higher rpms where it struggles a bit less.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what the problem might be or where i should start looking?

It wouldnt match the air flow signal. That and you would have a stored code for tps. So no it wouldnt.

ECU reads it as WOT dumping fuel in with little air to burn it.

Since he brought it up, maybe some old school ways will shed a little light on. Do you know what the choke did on cars with carburetors? And why that was done?
