well what do you mean exactly that there is NO power steering? is the steering the same as if you were to try to turn the wheels without the motor running?

try putting the key in the run position and turn the wheels while stopped without the motor running. its the same as that, even with the motor running?

The '89 has progressive powersteering. Check to make sure the vac line from the accordian hose is hooked up to the vac switch on the P/S pump. It has two nipples, the other runs from to the vac hard line across the top of the lower timing cover. Trace both to make sure they are hooked up and have no cracks.

ugh. that thing has nothing to do with PPS.

with the idle up valve disconnected, your RPMS will drop while turning the wheel at idle. is this the problem you are describing?

No, that's not what he's talking about... my car has the same problem and i've been told to bleed my system... well I have, 10 times.

What happens is it gets EXTREMELY difficult to turn the wheel when RPMS are low, ie, idle. damn near as bad as if the engine was not running at all.

check the belt? it can slip without it squeaking, that would cause that problem.

if there are no leaks, id guess the only other thing that could be the problem would be a bad pump.

Belts fine on mine, not sure about his. I notice mine when I'm going around corners without any accel. it'll be a bitch to turn cuz the engine is idling...

That would suck. I don't wanna replace the pump. Nooo.

I know you posted this a looonnnnnggg time ago, but I just wanted to say, that i know exactly what you went through by having ps fluid in the system instead of atf, I used to have a couple acuras, one of which was primary to the supra for about two years while the supra sat in the garage. But I lost it in a wreck, and went back to the supra as my daily. I ended up putting dot3 brake fluid in mine cuz that's what honda's and acura's use in their ps systems. Now, I'm about to find out if the pump is worth a damn or not, cuz I just got the whole thing back together after tearing the whole damn system out and cleaning the whole thing. I did notice some play in the power steering pump pulley's shaft, though that was before re-attaching the belt to it. I have a really bad feeling though, I think its gonna be shot. Oh well, sh*t happens I guess, huh? Part of supra ownership lmao! At least it wasn't a ::bhg:: :biglaugh: , well, take it easy man! Feel free to hit me up if you want to sometime, I don't know many people on here, but I do know Jake (Reign_Maker), though he's the only one really. BTW, my name's Randy! Later!
