Does anyone know a good aftermarket alarm system that won't break the bank, so to speak? The Sup is my only car/DD and I'm in college right now, and I can't afford it to be stolen. I realize that the terms "good" and "cheap" don't work well together, but if there isn't a system that won't kill my bank account, is there a way for me to wire up some sort of starter-cut switch (like what is part of the TDS) so that if someone were able to get into the car they wouldn't be able to start it?

The computer that controllers my TDS is fried (according to Toyota)

Thanks guys

Any decent aftermarket alarm will have a starter disable output that can be wired in. Crimestopper's CS 2011RS is a good value at around $75. Or a CS 2016 with paging for a bit more. Both offer alarm with shock sensor, remote start, and keyless entry in a compact unit but you only need to wire what you want. If it were me I'd just get another factory box as they can be had used for cheap. Not that I'd believe anything a dealer tech says without checking it myself...

jetjock: I personally am not able to check with the computers in the car, I don't know anything about the electronic components of cars.
Before I had it towed, I looked at the owners manual (my car came with the original manual from 1988) and checked every fuse that I thought could even barely link to the issue, none were blown. All of the symptoms the car was having pointed to the anti-theft system (according to all of my past problems with it).

Clip: I don't want to pull/keep the EFI fuse with me as I'd be afraid of losing and/or breaking it.

For $6 shipping, I will give you the stock alarm module, and back it with a warranty. I have 2-3 of them. Not only that, I can walk you through installing it. It is very easy!

Or, if you want to just use the EFI fuse method, you could pull it, and leave the fuse somewhere in the car. Anyone smart enough to look to see if it is missing, will also be able to borrow a 15 amp fuse from elsewhere to get away. That would probably be someone who has seen you pull the fuse.

The fuse connectors are not made for thousands of connect cycles, and will fail or become unreliable if the fuse is pulled on a daily basis.

A better route is just wire a kill switch somewhere in that path. Cheap and pretty effective if done right.
