No Boost??? Help!

yesterday, i changed my lower intercooler hoses, because i assumed i had a boost leak (had all of the symptoms) it would hesitate slightly in 1st, hissing noise when boosting, etc... it seemed like the replacement hoses (used, but in waay better condition than mine)one was a bit too long, so I trimmed it down about an inch or so, forced it to fit, had to leave the aluminum piece unbolted and hanging slightly lower...

I put everything back together, ran fine, idled same as before, I boosted a couple of times, and didn't really notice any difference, then about the 7th or 8th time, i boosted, and noticed a really wierd noise, like a coarse, metal scraping sound (when boosting) Took the car home, parked it...

Today, when I was coming home from school, I started to accelerate in 1st, (no boost), and heard a "chirp" sound, like when air is released VERY quickly, then the car wouldn't boost at all, just revs up like an NA, and the boost gauge shows no activity, stills idles and seems to run fine.... :1zhelp: ...please

I'd say your turbo is toast... if I'm reading your post correctly... take off the accordian tube and check for shaft play...

pull your accordian hose from the inlet of the turbo and youll see your compressor wheel. it rides on this "shaft". grab the shaft and try to move it in any direction...
edit: dang. two replys the very same min! lol
seriously youll prob find that the turbo shit the bed..

im guessin the shaft play check was before the horrendous screaching noise ?

if there is any movement side to side or in and out it's shot... it shouldn't move at all...

EDIT: IMO get something other than a ct...

okay, i just checked it, shaft play was as usual, but it was hard to turn the impeller, kinda jerked a little as it turned... So i'm guessing it's shot...

as far as another turbo, I am VERY limited as far as funds... Just went through a head gasket job, and head rebuild... how much to rebuild this CT? I have heard something about a DIY kit? I would be happy with the stock ct...

Will the car be okay to drive (easy, and for short distances, like to school and back?) It seems to run fine, just doesn't boost...

do you want to keep that motor or rebuild... I'd say no... I think mdc does a rebuild... not sure on the price...

im not gonna tell you to drive it as i dont think anyone else would either.. get a used one maybe. i see em for sale all the time for around $100..
p.s. keep in mind those metal shavings are goin somwhere ..

exactly... thats why it wouldn't be ok to drive...

I might be able to get you one... let me call a buddy in KCMO and check it out... he's got somethin like a little graveyard for supras... and 2nd gen 7's and a few z's out there...
