no 1jz bov = bad?

i believe the 1jz has a stock bov. when i bought my current supra with a 1jz swap, the owner had swapped in new IC pipes and IC but did not replace the bov. would this have caused my rear turbo to blow? it was getting oil, but still blew. i should add that there were some exhaust leaks and i know that doesnt help matters.

so i guess my questions are:

1) would the lack of the stock BOV cause my rear turbo to pop?
2) if i stay out of boost, should they be ok long enough for me to get a BOV?
3)lilmissmkIII (i think it was her, it was in sm chat) said that bov's have not been proven to prolong turbo life. she cited her example of driving her car without one for two years and the turbo was ok.

if anyone could shed some light on this id be very grateful. thanks

BOV's prevent compressor surge.

Its very possible not having a blow off valve caused your rear turbo to quit.

7m's have a stock bypass valve, which performs the same function, so if your friend was driving a 7m then it would be fine without a real 'blow off valve.'

I would suggest picking up a stock one for now, they can't be too expensive to get from someone who's gone single (heck I might have a spare).

IIRC the BOV on the 1J is on the cast pipes that go to the twins, so it's probably still there.

And the twins go out when pushed hard...

ill double check to see if thats still there. and what do you mean the stock twins go when pushed hard? were you talking about higher boost levels or "spirited" driving? my boost was stock and i admit to driving the shit outta my car, but nothing too retarded

well my boost was stock, so "hopefully" they just went bad on me. if the bov is on the iron pipes then it should still be there and it was getting properly lubricated so i don't know what else would cause it blow.

Higher boost doesn't kill twins, unfortunately they are luck of the draw. I had mine go out at 16psi (3" from the stock y pipe back, no boost controller) over maybe 1k miles, and there are people who have run them at 18psi for years. They go when they decide to, lol.

while people are helping me, does anyone know where i can get the downpipe gaskets for it? evidently they got all jackered up when the turbo went boom. is there another vehicle that has the same gaskets as this?
