Hey all with summer coming along i want to start a little project and i was looking at an mk3.
My main question would be with a new MHG and retorquing of the bolts is it possible to cure the bhg problem for good?
Would you recommend the supra as a daily driver and say that they are reliable in that aspect? Im starting my first real semester of college after the summer.
My plan is to keep everything stock on the Mk3 turbo when i get it.
I just want some reassurance that itll be a good daily once everything is said and done and that i wont have to deal with the BHg head ache.
Thanks for the replies in advance

First of all welcome to supramania!
you say your looking for a lil project. a supra is NOT a little project. Plan on spending alot of money and spare time on it. busted knuckles and throwing wrenches are par for the course. This said i would not reccomend a supra for a daily driver, i made that mistake. Have something to drive while your working on the supra.
Second any quality headgasket is good enough to solve the bhg problem. the cause of the problem is insufficient torque on the head studs. In fact you can incease the life of the existing hg by retorqing the head to 70-80 lb/ft. invest in a repair manual and make sure you torque the head down in increments and in the correct order (repair manual will expain this) as far as a metal hg goes keep in mind your going to have to have the head lapped to a near mirror finish. If your planning on staying near stock, a MHG is not required, again the key is 70-80 lb/ft of torque, some even venture into the low 90s.
Finally i seriously doubt you will keep it stock. you may say that now, but in the quest for more power there is no cure for the itch, and you have the itch, otherwise you wouldnt want a supra.
Long story short, a supra is great car. Having an MKIII is more than a little project. It will become a passion, a money pit, and a source of joy and sometimes sorrow, a learning experience and much more. That said, its a great project and if you want one by all means go for it, but just know it wont be cheap, easy, or an ideal daily driver.
