Hey guys I am currently looking to buy a 87 Supra as a secondary car. I wanted to get some advice from you guys before going any further. I Currently have a WRX that I have been trying to work on for a long time but do to the drive to work and the mile I put on to it, its been kind of hard. I found a 87 Supra for sale that I would love to buy and slowly build up as well. I was just wondering if I could run the vehicle info and see what you guys think. I appreciate any info, and am sure will get bashed for wanting to work on my WRX more then the Supra, car is selling for $800. Here is the info, and I thank you very much for any info given:
- 1987 Supra N/A
-150k on the engine/ new radiator
- Used low mile tranny put in last year/ 5spd
- Rebuilt drive shaft put in last year/ New Cat
- Metal Headgasket just put in and it was wapped?? as well as water pump, and belts
Will need paint/some smoke from oil, and eventually bearings (not sure if engine or wheel yet).
Last the guy I talked to was all excited because eched in the windshield it says "toyota" or something like that.
My questions would be:
-does it have anti lock brakes?
-How reliable are these cars/is repair work expensive? I can do body work/paint myself.
-thanks for any input and sorry for all the Noob questions.

I would suggest that you check to see if there is any rust, and if no,would take care of the body last. Being that it is N/A,your going to suffer for what you really want,a 7MGTE or a 1J.But you could eventually do a engine swap to turbo later. It's just a matter of getting all the parts and installing them properly.Ask around,it's a pretty popular swap.Sounds like the routine things like rad,d/s,tranny and cat were already taken care of.Good. Figure out where the smoke is coming from, check at idle and do a road test to determine if it is a wheel bearing. The fronts are not to bad to rerplace.
Anyone else?

Sounds good, like I said the Supra will be very SLOWLY worked on. I am pretty much going to use it as a daily driver and practice my bodywork/ ect... on that car so I dont mess up my WRX. Another good thing is my cousin owns a body shop and has an amazing supra that he has been working on for a while so I know he can help me with alot of the body work. Its pretty cool if you have time and want to check out his supra its at
www.bodywiseimports.com
other then that, yea engine swap will most likely be in the future, I am sure I can crank some major HP out of the Supra. The guy also mentioned I might want to put in a Water Injector, so I can run cheaper gas.???? I dont see why I would put in high grade gas in the N/A anyways. Thanks for the info
