Hi All! I have a N/A 1988 supra. The only mod I have is the HKS mushroom intake. It was deteriorating so I bought a different cone filter. When removing my air flow meter I wasn't thinking (due to lack of sleep from an accident) and instead of removing the clip for the air flow meter plug I unscrewed the connector and moved it around trying to figure out how it comes out. Once I realized the clip was ther I screwed it back and removed the clip. Now my supra won't do more than idle. Any attempt to give it gas makes it gob down and almost quit. I checked the code and it's throwing a 24. I took the screws off and checked all the connectors and they look intact. The plug had 7 slots for male connectors, but should the third slot on the plug from the right not have a metal connector? I researched the site all I could and didn't find anything. I did bend the male connections on the air flow meter slightly to see if they would connect with the plug better and it didn't help. Thanks for any insight you have!!!

What I was really wondering is there a way to get in there and see if I un hooked something when I unscrewed the connection. I see there is silicon sealing to cover. Has anyone ever removed that to gain access? I assume that's the only way to the air temperature sensor?
Sounds like it's jacked. Try searching for how to clean it. There are instructions about trying a "last-ditch" cleaning of a mirror type thing (been awhile, can't remember). May be here and/or on the Celica/Supra site, or even the MKIIITech site.
Dunno what the AFM/MAF goes for these days, but getting the Lexus AFM deal is probably as cheap and a better option. I have a Lexus one to spare (electronics and housing), but research it and see if it's for you.

I've spent hours looking around the internet and have found nothing. Someone on this site referred to cleaning the Air Flow Meter as a last ditch effort to try to fix it. I found info on a mirror in it and not to use chemicals while cleaning it, but nothing about tips on trying to save one. Can anyone help? Has anyone ever taken the silicon off to get at the internal parts? My vane moves fine, but it won't do more than idle and it throwing a 24 code.

I bent the connector tabs to be sure they make a good connection and that didn't help. Everything points to it being a bad AFM. If it's bad then I figure my opening it up to clean won't make atters worse.

i did the same thing and mine is doing exactly what your describing.... but it gave that code when i unplugged it and i think a 31 when it was plugged in....

There were 2 n/a's at a local yard here. If you'd like I can grab one for ya if you pay cost + shipping and the yard doesn't charge too much.
New ones are 2-300 I believe.
I opened up the AFM and found some solder on the pin connections to the board loose. I played around with stuff and got my car to run, but something in there is still messed up.

if you do the test as grim says and it fails, i have a extra NA AFM laying around that i would let go for cheap and I'm 100% sure that it works, I'm close to the Dayton area...not sure if you come down this way that muchDearJimmy;1132646 said:

Duh... didn't even think of the N/A issue.
Gotta get rid of this 7M stuff I still have around... just confuses me and am getting older every day :nono:

I went to the junk yard today and only had time to hit a few. I have a question about Air Flow Meters in Toyota's. The lat 80's Camry V6 Air Flow Meter looks identical to the supra, but has a different number on it. The beginning numbers are both 22250-. My supra AFM 1s 22250-42030 and the Camry is 22250-07010 Does anyone know if there is a difference? I would think one might be the horse power? I held mine up to the Camry's AFM and they are identical. The computer board indife might be different though? Here's a Camry one I found on Ebay as an example:

I did do a search for archives on "Camry AFM" and a bunch came up, but nothing I saw that helped. After I wrote my post above this I searched for "Camry Air Flow Meter" and wouldn't you know I found a Thread that talks about an RX-7 AFM working, but the thread just stops without an exact answer. i've tried it on my 87 n/a when mine started going south last year. Didnt work cause the afm have differnet resitor set-ups inside. I got an extra one for $50 shipped if your interested. I have lots of n/a parts laying around if you need anything
