A new Formula One team is under wraps in America and set to be launched officially later this month, according to several outlets on Wednesday.

The team, whose logo can be previewed at usf1.com, is fronted by F1 stalwart and broadcaster Peter Windsor, and American Ken Anderson, of Indycar and NASCAR fame but also former Ligier technical director.

Briton Windsor, 56, is best known today as the pitlane contributor for SPEED's Formula One broadcasts, but he has previously worked as team manager for both Ferrari and Williams, winning the world title with the latter in 1992.

The website of British magazine Autosport, along with the German website motorsport-total.com, said USF1 intends to make its Grand Prix debut in 2010, and already has the blessing of F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone.

The team will have the slogan 'Made in America' and be headquartered in the heart of NASCAR country in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Reportedly, an agreement to use the new Windshear wind tunnel in North Carolina is already in place, while USF1 intends to be a showcase for American technology and US-born drivers.

I remember when F1 came to the US the first time (I think it was the first time), 22 out of 24 racing teams were on strike. So it ended up being 4 cars driving around for 2 hours. Needless to say people were pissed...

I was always wondering what happened to F1 in north america...

What are you talking about? That wasn't the first time, that was basically the last time, F1 was in the USA for years and years before that happened.

If I'm thinking about the same time you are anyways, which I probably am.

Like Jeff said, F1 has been in the U.S. for years... There was a 8 year peroid that they werent in the 90's... It came back in 2000 to Indy..

The race that was a flop was in 05 and it was not because they were on strick, it was because Michelin fucked up due not knowing how the track was on the tires and with F1's rules that year of not allowing tire changes during the race and had a problem with the tire compound that they brought and recomended that all the teams running thier tires withdraw from the race.. The staring grid had 6 cars, the only 3 teams that were running Bridgestone's (Ferrari, Minardi, and Jordan)... There were only 20 cars in that race but only the 6 started..

Bernie Ecclestone (head of F1) has stated in an interview at one of the races last year that they are looking at other tracks and having talks to bring F1 back to the US in the future but nothing has been set in stone or even close.. He said that they are mainly looking out west...

I say they need to redo Sebring and run it like they did back for the first ever US F1 Grand Prix back in 1959 IIRC...

I dunno what I'm talking about, it's been a while... :icon_razz

I was quite young when my family watched F1.... mostly cos my sister loved Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher.

I enjoyed it every so often but I was more into Tennis. I only remember that event cos it was all over the news in Germany for quite some time.... how understandably pissed people were etc. My sis and mom maybe watched it.

Thanks for the info about it cjsupra... :icon_bigg

Considering Indy is the only track in the US that's approved by the FIA, they'll have to either build a new one or upgrade one to FIA standards if they even want to test on it.

While I agree the US Grand Prix was not very exiting to many, the Canadian Grand Prix has been considered one of the best venues for some time.
