I've been hanging out for a couple of days doing a lot of reading and it seems like you guys have a really great forum here!!
I just bought my first Supra about 6 days ago. I bought it as a project car to tinker with over the next year or so. I'm hoping to have it on the road by next spring. I've had my eyes on a Supra for some time now. I would say its a huge upgrade from what I was driving for the last 9 yrs. You can check it out here: http://www.j-body.org/members/sandman76/cars/1/
I gotta say it was tough for me to get rid of that one. It was my 1st brand new car. I put just shy of 140k on that one. I know it's a little ricey, but heck, I was just out of high school when I bought it.
OK, about the Supra!! (I know none of you are interested in that Cavy.)
It's an 88 black auto turbo targa with about 125k on the body. I bought it off of ebay out of Michigan and had it transported back to me in Milwaukee, WI (I believe the previous owner was a member here.) The previous owner bought the car from FL and stored it for the 4 winters he owned it. Body is in real good shape except for the spare tire well, which I'm noticing from research is a trouble spot for rust. I will be cutting the floor completely out and replacing it. I believe I have a pretty good starting point with the motor. The guy seemed like he was looking for some pretty decent HP numbers from the upgrade he's done. Mods that I know to be done to the car are: Upgraded turbo to a SP61GT, LIPP afm was installed, 550 injectors (I don't know what brand yet), Aftermarket radiator from PWR with a duel electric fan set up, a yet to be installed Walbro 255 fuel pump, a BIC divorced downpipe into a custom 3" exhaust and flowing through a Magnaflow muffler, A HKS SSQ BOV, a Greddy Profec B II EBC, Innovate wide band O2, an Apexi turbo timer and SAFC II was also added along with an assortment of Autometer guages. The previous owner also claimed that he had the block honed and decked, added a new cometic head gasket which I believe to be blown (there's antifreeze in the number 2 and 5 cylinders), and added ARP studs. I bought the car knowing that the tranny was blown. He claimed that he boosted the car way past the limit of the stock tranny and blew it. Only having the car 6 days I haven't had time to investigate whether the claims about the head gasket and what not are true yet and I haven't tried pulling the tranny out yet. Any ideas on what tranny I should put in would be appreciated. I want to keep the car auto but was thinking of putting a beefy GM tranny behind it. I've heard rumors that this can be done. If so, I know you can get some pretty good GM's for little money. As for pics of the car, I haven't taken any yet, so you'll have to wait on those. I'm hoping in the next couple of weeks to start digging in and documenting the restoration. I first have to fix my daily driver which so nicely blew IT'S transmission on Monday.
A few words about me, I'm 31, married with a 2yr old son, who btw seems to be very interested in what goes on in the garage :icon_bigg
I've worked in the trucking industry for 10 yrs both as a over the road driver and as a dispatcher but am planning on getting out to persue a career in real estate.
Well now that I'm sure that this is probably one of the most lengthy intros on this forum, I'll stop for now and just say thanks for having me. I hope to make some new friends and explore new things with my new Supra.
