I recently picked up an 89' with a blown 7mge. I've been looking for some local 7mgte and can't really find much under $1200. But I did find a gte block, for $50 (needs honing and sandblasting), I also found a gte head for cheap as well. It started to make me wonder..

Would it be more cost effective to try to piece a 7mgte (stock aside from arp bolts/mhg) or to try to find an engine used? I know the question is pretty vague..

Thanks,

Heads are the same, better to find a complete swap as there are a bunch of small parts needed that will blow out the budget if you have to buy new from Toyota.

Buy a complete engine with sensors, harness, ecu exc. Get it in and running. Save the block and head for when you get power hungry. That way you can be building an engine the right way at your own pace while your supra is running. Then when your motor is built, you can pull the old motor, swap over the electronics and drop it in.
