ok so i bought a 89 mk3 turbo came with greddy intercooler and blow off vlave. and the usualy exhaust and intake. when i first got it it had check engine light. had 5 codes on it. i got it down to 1 code, code 22 for coolant temp sensor. it is very hard to start when cold. it starts then stummbels and dies untill it warms up for a few minutes but it runs awsome once warm. my cold start injector switch is broken i can pul the acualy sensor straight out without un doing the nut that holds it down the plastic part is detached from the nut.

so my question is can a bad cold start switch cause a code 22 ? and do my symptoms sound correct for the cold start switch?

thank you

Redacted per Title 18 USC Section 798
Yes

1) The cold start switch runs an autonomous injector, one that can't function after the key is released from start.

2) The code 22 involves the EFI coolant sensor. It's what the ECU looks at.

3) A code 22 makes the ECU think the engine is already hot but doesn't effect cold start injection.

4) It's why yours starts but doesn't run right until hot. There's no warm up enrichment and fast idle strategy being applied. Fix the 22 and all should be well.

You're welcome. With me not being a people person and all it could've been much worse....

ok i under stand. i just looked at my coolent temp sensor the guy before me must of put a diffrent sensor in and ran a new connector with one wire. i found the old green coolant temp sensor connector covered in crap. he wired a new connector to a completely diffrent lookig coolant temp sensor becuase he snaped a the old coolant temp sensor and couldnt get the sensor free from the orginal green female connector.

so i pulled the old snaped sensor out of the orginal connector. pulled out his half ass coolant temp sensor and i will be going to autozone to get the correct coolant temp sensor.

and will a cold start injector switch from a 88 turbo fit my 89 i can get it for 20.00 bucks ?

i kind of have the same problem car starts up fine when warn but the colder it is out the harder it is to start

have already replaced with no change:
cold start injector
cold start timing switch
ecu temp sensor

(i'll have to check for code again as i haven't) and it was summer so wasn't much of a issue but now its starting to get cooler out mostly in the mornings
