Well I just got my new front bumper and everything in. I was in a small accident and it had some cracks so I'd been looking around to replace it.
I got a front bumper on ebay that said it came with the bumper, panel, foglights, and grille inserts. It had the usual advertising of "Twin Turbo Supra bumper from Japan, genuine JDM pieces off 91 Supra Twin turbo"
So I thought ya ya as long as it's in good shape, I'll take my chances.
Turns out it was legit, 1JZ front bumper with "TWIN turbo" grille insert, and to my suprise the Yellow JDM fogs. I was pumped lol.

I also never realized the angle of the US bumper is different from the JDM 1JZ

Sorry for the dirty looking pictures... my camera picks up on every spec of dust.

Very hard to tell from those pictures. Please retry and get the same angle on both the JDM and the US bumpers - I think you will find they are actually the same.

I took a ruler to it and the angle is steeper on my stock bumper. What pointed it out to me was towards the bottom of the foglight hole the new bumper curves more than the old bumper. It's a slight difference, not sure if it will set the look apart at all.

would toyota really take the time to reengineer the bumper for the JDM, or USDM market with such a small difference? they are the same.

I just double-checked the 2006 Supra calendar (has a picture of Urbano's JDM 93 and Steve M's US 90). The funny part that I hadn't noticed is the shots were taken at darned near the exact same angle on the cars. The nose looks the same in those pics - in the calendar the differences are the color and the fact that Urbano's car has the JDM factory lip.

Small clearance issues with the 7M that they didn't have with the 1J? Or just to have their's look slightly better than ours haha.
I don't know but mine are definetly different.

I'm not sure what year the bumper is. The seller said it would fit 86-91. Which was kind of strange he didn't include 92
I remember the discussion alittle while ago about a 92 bumper appearing to have a wider grille. The grille's the same on mine, just a different slope to it.

I agree with you, it's a completely different bumper... unless the modifications were intended for clearance with the 1J front mount intercooler? I have no other guesses.

Such a smaller difference, I wonder why.

Thanks for believing me Brent, haha everyone else thinks I'm bullshitting.
Yea it confuses me too, Maybe it's one of those little things they do to have an edge over us.

Just to prove I'm not totally just blowing smoke up your ass... I was thinking about the humidity in Japan, and that it's higher than ours... (statistically speaking.)

Perhaps it was engineered to have better cooling efficiency?
But for research's sake... I'll have to see at least 10 more comparisons with different bumpers to be convinced.

The JZA70 with the 1JZ-GTE had "2.5 Twin Turbo" on the front, not "Twin Turbo". You know what did have "Twin Turbo"? The GA70 with the 1G-GTE, you know what else the GA70 had? Narrowbody.

That's probably a narrowbody/widebody difference. The widebody front bumper cover is the same as the one we got, and no, the front bumper never changed based on year (other than for 89).

There are a ton of much smaller changes than that though, if I didn't know, I would have said it could have been different just because it was from Japan.

Being an American, I completely forgot about the Narrow bodies! :(
