Yea, since I have not seen a strictly V8 race in F1 (only been watching for a couple years) this is pretty exciting to see some super high rev V8.

I remember that the announcers were predicting 20k+ rpm this year; due to the motors being smaller.

Some teams were already basically hitting 20k RPM's with the 3.0L V10's... a 2.4L V8 will be crazy. Crazy-awesome that is! :)

Still hope the power levels stay up though.

Who cares about where this thread is, especially if there is no OT. F1 is awesome and gets a spot. :)

Anyway, Jeff, I remember seeing BAR honda specifically hitting 19k no problem on shifts. The problem was for a while (last year especially) they had to drop them because the motors were blowing up like every race when they reved that high.

We may not ever see another, lets just say, supra kind of car from Toyota. They don't even have a "sporty coupe" in the celica or MR2 after this year. Also they are digging into nascar pretty good now (I HATE nascar) and I heard that they are gunning for the nextel cup cars which in that case they'll probably run a solara badge on it; so there is no need for a sports car.

Maybe the implementation of the new R35 GTR will bring Toyota to its knees to develope a sports car ( supra ) again?
Here is the R35, this is the official nissan site dedicated to its unvailing at the 2005 TAS

So what happend to the OT section? Did they finally get rid of it? All I saw was arguing there anyways hahahahaha

Oh so true....I know you guys have seen the new toyota commercial....with people talking about "clean air"....WTF or WHERE THE F*** is clean air anyways? The whole world is already poluted....and at the point of no return....LMAO.....Its just a target market....those people that feel the need to conserve energy and polute less...and make 70hp doing so :aigo:

People with no driving spirit....they just know point A to point B....

It would be like stopping Football to a football crowd if our cars were outlawed....the death of a WHOLE society would be immenent.....an outrage and possibly an overthrowing of the nations capitol would insue.

You know the president would own a Supra...... :biglaugh:

Interesting V8. Very high rpm, amazing actually. (Think of all the moving parts, and the stresses they have to endure to just hit this 20k mark.)

The stroke on this motor must be very short indeed. (I think eventually, they will need fewer rings so they can shorten the stroke even more.)

2.0L V8 with 100mm bores, and very short stroke = very high top end HP, but little low end tourqe. I'm not sure where F1 is going these days. (I'm not sure they know either.)

I'd rather see some 6L V8's out there, mandate a square stroke and bore setup, unlimited HP potential.

NA you get 6L.
Turbo you get 3.5L
SC you get 3.8L

Let them build engines we might actually see in production cars this way. It would also bring the US automakers to the show, and make the races more fun to watch and cheer for.

Toyota in NASCAR is weird. So, are the Toyota guys making a pushrod V8 now? (Heard this was the case.) So are we going to see them produce this V8 for the Tundra?

I think if the Tundra is going to compete, then Nissan should also, and bring the Titan to the ring to kick ass.

That GTR/Skyline is sure going to be an ugly duckling. (If it ends up going out like the video shows, that roofline is dang ugly.) The current G35 is very nice looking, why screw around with perfection? Keep the G35's best lines, add the AWD goodies, some Sparco seats, forged wheels, larger brakes, and a kickass 4.0l V6 twin turbo motor based on the VQ. Keep the price under 70k, and kill the coupe market world wide.

Will not happen though.
It's going to be 80k or more.
Will have a Nissan interior/seats with some Rays wheels.
Mild Brembo brakes.
Use the 3.5L V6 with twins that make 500hp if we are lucky. (Not the 700+ hp this car really needs to make it a world dominating coupe.)

Will keep that funky roof line design. The rear 3/4 view is nice except for the roof. Same with the front. Sides are interesting, but it looks like what the Charger should have been. (Wrong in both cases.)

Just my opinion, but keep the MK3, it's a better looking car stock, and totally nicer with a few mods.

I dont know why i would be banned from OT...I havent posted there in weeks!

Anywho,

I think F1 should go with the big v8's just like in the early 80's and late 70's...or just go with TT V6's like the mid 80's ( they were outlawed beacuse they were SO powerful...BMW made over 1300hp out of a 1.5 ltr V6....insane!)

F1...well they are the Pinnacle of automotive engineering.....so I would say in 10 or so years we may see kneumatic valvetrains inside every day vehicles...easier and cheaper to maintain....less friction and better fuel economy!

f1 cars have always had the stroke half or less than half the bore size. So 100mm bore would have a 50mm stroke and perhaps even less now. But they have been hitting 16k rom without issues for YEARS.

In my F1 tech book Ferrari I do believe had as little as a 38mm stroke and sharing ( in the V10 configuration) 2 rods per crank journal!!!! weird set up I know...but some how it works??

I have STILL yet to see what they look like internally in person ( except for the kneumatic valvetrains).....but from what I hear, the internals of an F1 motor are barely remenecent of those of modern everday cars! The pistons look like and are as thin as 1 inch deep.....and the rods are nearly solid Titanium/Beryllium hybrid mixes.....and something like roller bearings on the crank like small motors and motorcycle motors? Is that how motorcycle cranks are set up?

Anyone with that info please share! Its a good topic and can only expand our knowledge! :naughty:

-Jonathan

PS: Does anyone know if I was banned from OT? I have no records of PM's or Emails stating that.....LMAO.....maybe someone got button happy? or is somthign screwed up with my browser?.....or is OT even still there? :icon_conf

f1 technology is beyond me, omg about the only thing they share with street cars is the fact that the tires are round.

Well well Mr. Dan

There is no off topic on my general screen. It has not been there for 4 days!

Jeff? :1zhelp:

As far as turbocharged F1 engines in the 80's, they were inline-4's, not V6's. The BMW engine you speak of, was a 1.5L Inline-4 Turbocharged engine.

Actually, you were banned from the Off-Topic forum as were the request of Lanky on October 2nd, 2005. You were constantly causing issues, and he warned you multiple times. I hesitated to move or close this thread before because I thought it was a good thread, but as Lanky pointed out in a private thread, you were banned from the OT forum because you couldn't handle yourself in there, there's no reason to let you go posting off-topic elsewhere on the site.

Thread closed, if you have any questions about this, or would like your OT status reinstated, please contact Lanky189, and speak with him about it further.

Sorry man.
