Well, pulled the tank today to swap the pump out for a 255. Bad luck all over the place with it. First off, it was a really good thing that I had purchased 2 newish tank straps to replace the ones that were on it because the straps were rusted almost all the way through in a few areas, and the threads snapped off on the front hangers. So, once the tank was loose, I started to work on the hoses. The two soft lines were no problem at all. They slid right off. The main fuel line ( hard one ), snapped at the 90* bend just before the connection for the hose that runs to the fuel filter. Of course you can't just order that one line alone, so I had to order an entire bracket assembly from Mr. T back in the states. So, for the brand new bracket ( which there are only 22 left in the US now that I have just purchased one, sorry guys better get them now ), the gasket for that bracket, 7 new bolts ( turns out I didn't need them to begin with ), a brand new drain plug, and gasket for that, set me back $148 shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
Now since I am in f*cking Germany, I have to try and find a place that does ( and knows how to do it properly ) hot tanking for the fuel tank. This way I can remove all of the rust and anything else that is on the outside and inside of the tank. Start fresh and new. Going to be a bitch to find a shop that even understands what the hell hot tanking is..... Time to call my German friend and see if he has a clue to what I'm talking about. Since the tank is out now, can someone please fill me in as to where the hell the fuel filter is? And if it even needs to be changed? I don't think it has ever been changed. Might be alot easier to do it now that the tank is out. If it doesn't matter whether the tank is out or not then I will leave it be since the car will be in storage until 2013 when I can ship it home. Please let me know as soon as you can because once the new bracket gets here it is time to start wiring and reinstalling the tank. Unless of course I find out that you can only get to the filter with the tank out.
