Does anyone out there know if it's possible to buy a new crate engine w/zero miles in a 1jzgte or 2jzgte? If so, where I might find one and a ball park price?
I'm looking to install one or the other in my 88/t. I think by the time I go thru my other 87 7mgte or any other engine I purchase, I'm still dealing with a 10-20 year old engine and will probably still be within a couple of thousand of buying this "new" engine.
Is this a realistic assesment or the impossible dream?

Well toyota still sells the 2jzgte you may be able to order a 1j from jappan but price range you're probly looking at arround 6 grand for that much you could have a sweet 7m or a JDM 2jz but final decision is your choice.

Impossible dream... for what you'd spend in "all new" parts, you could've bought and killed several Aristo engine sets/clips.

You can get a used one and replace the internals with hi-performance stuff and basically rebuild, before you install... That't the furthest I'd go with this idea...

Good luck!

Cost: One arm and one leg. Impossible dream? Not if you can spare one arm and one leg.......................;)

so if i did the math right, youd have to have 4 legs and 4 arms in order to pull this one off.

two hands on the wheel at all times, one to shift, and then one foot for each pedal. can you imagine toe-toe-toe downshifting? DORIFTO!

i once asked my local Toyota dealer how much for a long block 7M-GTE they said that it comes without the turbo and the cost was $27,500 CAD

thats not a typo

you can buy 2J's from Titan motors sports. they will even inspect them and prepthem for you to make sure there iwll be no issues.

Titan sells engines for allot less. I think to buy a 2J is cheaper or a 1J then the 7M

That is a very expensive endevour. i hope it is for somthiikng worht while to spend all that extra cash on a new engine

What I have is an 88/t shell that is straight and just needs paint. I bought it because my 87/t had come from boston and the dreaded cancer monster has ate the rear half of the car from the inside out. You wouldn't know it from the outside. Anyway, I was going to put my7mgte from the 87 to the 88. The head was totally gone through about 10,000miles or so ago, when I blew a hg but I figure I should go through at least the bottom end before reinstalling. Then I saw a 1jzgte on ebay for$2500 with ecu wiring, etc. but then again I'll still have a 20 year old engine. Was just wondering if the "new" engine idea was worth the effort. I'm not building this car for resale value or anything. Just want a cool unique car that I can cruise all these hotrod shows on the weekends. Turning 40 so I believe this will be the only one I will ever do.Just want to do it right I don't want to have to be constantly working on it. I plan on cruising it til I'm 100. (if they let me keep my licence hah, hah!).
If I go 1j or 2j my 7mgte will be up for sale soon. Thanks for all the input. It is helping me come to a decision. This project has to be done by this time next year.
