Over at Theologyonline, which is a site strictly for politics and religion, the rep system is more accurate. It isn't a mix of tech and opinions, like here.

There is nothing better than hitting people with negative rep. It is your duty as a human being to let them know they are stupid, and why.

So I have decided to just start handing it out here to.:kaboom:

I decided to do this after the total nonsense that is going around off topic. I gave out one just the other day, but that was half out of malice. The rest will be straight shots.

it is not your job or position to regulate Off topic, no matter how you wish to go about it...start handing out neg rep simply becuase you disagree or becuase you can't win an arguement and see how quickly your OT privileges are rebuked...you're subject to the rules just as anyone else is.

I sometimes leave negative feedback when someone says something stupid. If I simply disagree with them that isn't reason enough for me to leave them neg rep. It has to be something like a personal attack, advocating something ultra stupid (like drinking and driving...), or sometimes (if a repeat offense) typing in all CAPS. For the most part I don't leave neg rep because it usually pisses people off. If the neg rep feedback was anonymous then I think the feedback system on here would be more honest and accurate, because people wouldn't be afraid to leave negative on someone when they deserve it.

Lanky, I don't think Nick is saying he's going to neg rep anyone simply for disagreeing with him...

I think this can go both ways. Back when SF had the rep system I got an anonymous reg rep that said "eww get a new avatar" because the person thought the girl in my avatar (my girlfriend) was ugly. I can see how people would be less afraid to leave neg rep when someone actually deserves it when they can leave it anonymously, however.

IMHO I see the rep system as a "neat" little feature and nothing more. It can be fun and a good tool to give someone some extra props or thanks, but its kinda sad when you see people get worked up over it.

Yeah true, it could definitely be abused. It's like there needs to be some sort of medium. Anonymous can get abused, but without it people getted pissed at the person who left the rep. I don't know how you'd get around that.

I agree that it shouldn't be taken too seriously. Leave the drama out of this board.
