Need to replace valves

I took my head into the shop and the mechanic showed me 3 (soon to be) burnt valves.

I really dont want to fork over the cash for new valves but i was wondering about the ebay nippon recing valves or the Ferrea valves for $269, any suggestions, anything to avoid?

Soon to be burnt valves? did he mean valve seals? Im not an experienced mechanic, and wont pretend to be. That just doesnt sound right. can someone explain how you can burn a valve? Or better yet know when you are going to in the future. Anyway, one other option is buying a whole head from someone. You can even use an N/A, just the cams are a little different. (we wont get into that)lol. I have only heard good things about ferrea valves though.

A burnt valve happens when the exhaust valve closes and teh valve seat constantly slams into the head upon intake stroke and slowly pushes itself into the head causing a small gap. Hot gasses in the combustion chamber to seep through the closed valve seats, this burns the valve. I wish i can explain it better:icon_conf
Its a really good idea to keep your valves adjusted right so this doesnt happen

I think i got what you mean. I just hadnt heard someone talk about a burnt valve before. I was trying to picture a valve being burnt, lol. Just trying to look out for ya incase the mechanic was trying to pull one.

The thing about replacing the valves probably isnt the cost of the vavles themselves, rather the machine work that must be done to fit them and put it all together. I dont realy think it is worth the cost unless you are going for high hp. What are your other mods?

I plan to run just under boost cut. 3in exh., air/water intercooler, boost controler. The head is going to be machined for a MHG, and replacing the valve seals too. So its already in pieces at the shop. Oh yea i also have a N/A cam lying around the garage i just might use

Ferrea valves are nice...very well made. If you stick to the stock size, all the machine work that will be necessary is to refresh the seats. The same 3 angle valve job as if you kept the stockers.

Of course you can
But O/S valves are really a waste unless you plan on hitting 450+ HP numbers with 550 (or bigger) injectors and all the fuel mods to support that kind of power.

Check with your machinist to see if there is extra cost involved. I had to get the Ferrea retainers for my O/S valves...cause I got the springs too
