Hi, im in Chattanooga, TN. (Hamilton county) The county above me (Bradly county) does not test for smog if you register in that county. I dont live there... but I would like to register my supra... obviously.

What are my options? (other then making it smog worthy) PM me or reply if you can help me out. Thanks...

How bad are you missing the smog by???

I'm in Chattanooga and passed smog with flying colors in an 87 Turbo. I even smoke a little at idle(ring blowby) and am in need of an o2 sensor.

Just take it in and pay the $10 to have it tested before going through the trouble of registering in another county.

BTW, are you the guy with the maroon Supra I've been seeing in Red Bank, the white one I've seen on the Veterans Bridge, or the black one I've seen in Hixson.(I live in North Chatt and have the dark/light blue 2 tone targa)

and I honestly expected to fail miserably.

Same here. Hamilton County smog test isn't hard to pass at all. All you need is a cat in place(they run a mirror under the car), have no check lights on(you could always reset right before you get there), and not have any major smoking issues.

The smog testing here is pretty strict on the testing part of things, but you won't fail for changes to the car - no visual inspection.

California is just plain stupid.

I read an article about someone who failed smog there because he'd removed his cat when he removed his muffler. He removed his muffler because he'd converted the car to electric, and didn't need one anymore. I've heard of lots of cases of "We don't give a shit if your emmissions are better than they were stock, you have modified the emmissions equipment, therefore, you fail. Have a nice day."

Well if you just get fed up with it all....just make sure your fuel tank is almost empty and put in 1-2 gallons of methanol and it will pass with flying colors.

Then fuel up with normal fuel.

Methanol is one of the worst things to put in your car. Dont do it. It is damaging to the fuel system components.

Put the cat pipes on with a new factory oxygen sensor and test warm and you will pass.

Then take the cats back off.

Yeah...methanol damages the rubber seals and rubber components of the fuel system if it is used long enough in your car. You can buy the right rubber that is resistant to it.

Months back I had talked to several racing companies here who run methanol.Actually I was told that hot rodders here have been using methanol to pass smog for years and they know that people here use methanol to pass smog.

Well anyway I was told for 1/2 smog testin it would not damage your fuel components.

Thats how I passed my smog here in Cali....used a gal of methanol and car was in smog was 20-30 mins and I fueled up with normal gas to dilute the mixture. Have had no problems...know a few people who have used methanol to pass smog. I did not wanna remove all my downpipes and other shit. I also had my egr system removed. I had my KNN on and the 1st time I failed smog they told me my KNN was illegal....Then a fellow supra owner from SM send me an article that approves the use of KNN air filter on our cars. I showed this to the inspectors and they let it go.

Cheers,
Roy
