my 89 supra turbo 7mgte has crapped out on me... well i did a compression test and clyinder #3 has 30psi and the rest came out to 90 psi. i know it could be the oil ring thats bad for one or maybe the valve is gone thats making me to lose compression. i have blue smoke coming out of my exhaust when the engine is cold there is no smoke but once it gets warm i have alot of blue smoke comign out. i check all my plugs and there all black where the tip is and only spark plug # 3 where i have 30psi has oil on it. the black sparkplug tip = im running rich i believe ? and this happened to me twice now where my temp gauge has rose almost up to HOT i shut the car off quick and saw coolant all over the floor but no broken hoses or anything the coolant came out from the resivor from the overflow valve and my resvoir was filled and in my raditor it was almost empty.. and in 1st gear when i give it a lil gas i can hear something bubbling sounds like water but im thinking coolant ? or could it be air thats coming into engine ? vacuum leak? can some give me some input could this be a blown headgasket? i dont smell any coolant from my exhaust and wouldnt my sparkplug tips be wet from the coolant coming into my system? thanks guys!

a JDM engine doesnt guarantee you ANYTHING and recommending it over a cheaper rebuild is just STUPID.

To rebuild your existing engine is cheaper than just buying a new engine. Granted, its an involved job, but plenty of us have either done it or are doing it. If you're doing HG - might as well get a rebore 20 thou over, re-hone, new set of pistons and rings, get your rods shotpeened, new bearings and then bolt it all back together again. That way you KNOW what work has been done to your engine, rather than just potentially wasting money by buying a JDM engine that might crap out on you in 3 months and require a rebuild....

Erm - with that compression? Thats not considered running fine. More than likely you've got a blown water jacket on the gasket - and DONT run it on a BHG, you'll eventually end up getting water into your oil, even the most minute amount of mixing causes problems.

will i need to take the block out if i was going with a oem hg with arp hardware+ new pistons, rings, rods, bearing if needed?what is the factory spec for compression im guessing 90 is really low?what are some good cheap piston to go with...that wont require me to do any block work.. or will i need to go with the size of my block to find out which size pistons to gowith ?

Yep - whole engine out to do all that. It's not hard to do, and most people manage it with a friend in a few hours.

Erm - if you're going 20 thou oversize, you need the block bored and honed, so that needs to go to a machine shop.

Cheap pistons...well i got a set for $84.95 off ebay, and they look pretty much stock, so they're fine for OEM application. No complaints with them so far.

90 is really low. Should be somewhere 150 to 160 at least.

Okay - I just explained what was wrong with going out and buying an un-guaranteed JDM engine. I suggest you read what i wrote.

Erm - $1500 for machine work? Who the hell has been taking you for a ride? It's no WAY that expensive. Ask other people. Hell, it cost me £180 for all the machine work on mine £90 for the rebore and hone and £90 for crank polish.

If you do go out and buy a used engine, if it blows up the same way in 3 months time, either with rod knock or BHG, then you'll be in the same situation - it makes more sense to spend money on a rebuild than just get a JDM engine, as like i said you KNOW how it's been built.

Actually, the fact that i've been on this site for a while now, owned two Mk3's now, one N/A and one Turbo, i think i'm more than qualified to give a response, especially to someone who has...hmm..11 posts.

My comments are far from 'dumb ass' and 99% of the people on this site will back me up in this regard.

JDM: Potential to purchase the same set of problems from another country....

thats why you get it from a reputable engine importer. our used JDM motors out here are guaranteed w/ a 6 months unlimited miles warranty.

and dont get stuff from Ebay..

anywayz, back to the topic.

It will be nice that before you start tearin your engine block apart.. have the Cylinder head checked for warpage & cracks.

its so easy to build a motor... but to look for a good Cylinder head for a decent price is not.

aite, peace.

Does the guarantee cover your time and labour for fitting as well as disposables such as Oil/Coolant?......

Reputable or not it's still a lottery what you end up with and then to run it hard or turn up the boost is like playing Russian Roulette with 5 loaded chambers....

Hear that IJ? You need to grow up and make your post less logical. I can't stand doing things right the first time.
