Need Some Info on a Rebuild

Alright,
Im starting to think ive got the beginning of Rod Knock so i want to start an early plan of attack and start gathering a plan & money for the possible rebuild that will be needed.

Whats the typical things i should replace or have done to the block when doing this.

Is it necessary to remove the head when doing a rebuild? I just spent $400 on getting a new 1.2MM MHG in there less then 1kmiles and i dont really want to have to put a new one on again.

Im going to be running a 57 trim CT26 in the near/distant future and would like to make sure the bottom end can support this. I dont really have the time or the money to go all balls wild on this rebuild but i do want it to be done right.

I've heard things like "knifing" the crank and polishing the crank and balancing but i dont really know whats best.. or if anyof this crap is needed.

Cliffs:
Need an idea of parts/machine work needed for fixing RK. New HG less then 1kmiles does the head have to come off for repairing RK?

no the head does not have to come off but with that said it kinda depends on the amount of work the shop is going to have to do to the crank an such. As for work that needs to be down the crank will need turned and proper sized bearings put in that is as long as the connecting rods are ok if they need bored then the head will have to come off. As for the MHG i thought those were reusable

i dont really feal comfortable re-using the head gasket. Just feels kinda like a half assed way to do things.

So ill probably need to have the crank turned and get the proper sized bearings for it?

What about "upgrades" if i do end up taking the head off is it recommended to hone the cylinder walls or treat the pistons/rods somehow?

If you're just looking to support the power from the 57 trim, do the basics only. Putting a knife edge on the crank would show some more power compared to stock, but for the money is takes to have it done, it's not worth it IMO. Although the motor will spin faster & you'll get less drag from crank, The money could be put in another mod that will show better end results.

The stock bottom end will handle anything your 57 can throw at it.

Rings will require you to remove the head but its worth the work down the road. My engine has bad rings now and when i get to 5K i put out a nice smoke screen
