hey guys I'm getting ready to do the 7mge- 7mgte swap and I was just wondering if my n/a wiring harness will still work on the turbo engine ?? or do I need a new wiring harness ?? ... if I do need a new wiring harness does it have to be the exact same year as my car ?? I'm picking up a 87 turbo the whole car so would I be able to just switch everything over to the 90 or does it have to be exactly the same year ... any help would be great thanks ....

You can pretty much swap everything over. If you were to keep the N/A wiring harness you'd have to keep the rest of the N/A's electronics... since you already have the turbo's electronics I'd do a complete swap (a LOT fewer headaches and no additional fuel management is needed).

the 87 actually wont work. you would need a late 89+ harness, the plugs that plug into the ecu are different

fuck really ... that sucks I have no idea where I can get a 89+ wiring harness.. does anyone know where I could buy one ???? or could I splice the 90 plugs onto the 87 wires and plug that into the ecu???

You also need to match up the b1 connector. keep that in mind when buying your harness

He'll have a parts car with all the parts (hopefully) so the only issue is where the body harness wires into the engine harness/ECU.

I don't know what route your planning on taking but like i said your b1 connectors need to match up before your car will even try to run.
The first picture should look like what your b1 connector is in your na, the second is the one on the turbo harness. This is the one of this biggest things I ran into though I was the opposite.

I just did a gte swap in a 89 ge car last fall. I ended up using a 88 harness. The B1 plug (body harness to eng harness) is the same 87 thru early 89. BUT the 89 pinouts are NOT. I had to remove the pins from the plug on some wires so they were routed to the correct locations. Both manuals will be a plus here. And you have to wire the ac temp sensor (on turbo cars only )(lower sensor on thermostat housing) direct to the plug coming off the ac amplifier. There is a short harness from this plug to the B1 plug so you could pull the pin and wire from donar car and not splice. But that wire is not present on the na cars. But it is from the amplifier to the plug a couple of inches away. I think there was another wire I had to run that wasnt present. Have to check my papers If I can find them. This will take some time. Dont rush and cross wires or there will be trouble.

I think the 90 B1 plug is different. But you could remove the B1 plug on chassis side of donar car to yours. But I would remove the pins and wires instead of splicing.

Just a thought

Sell your 89+ harness and ecu, and buy the pre89 harness and ecu. You could do both here in the for sale section. Less headache(by far), and probably make the trade pretty quick.

Sorry, have that backwards. You need to buy the turbo harness and ecu for the same year as your car, and sell the stuff you have. You could probably sell all the n/a stuff as well. Might need to swap injectors as well, but not really sure. IT would definitely be alot easier than chopping the body harness in your car, and hoping you get it right.

Can you use the pre89 harness on the 89+ engine without any modification?

In other words, the harness must match the year of the car, but does it matter at all for the engine?

87 engine + 90 harness +90 ECU into 90 car is all good?

I thought I had all this info straight, but obviously not. :nono: I'm so confused right now.

I know for a fact the cold start injector switch connector is different, I think a few other connectors are different as well.

Not sure, to be honest. Think the ignitors are different as well. I'm sure there are a few differences, and I'm also sure that a little bit of searching would turn up everything he needs to know.

I'd still rather change a few parts out than mess with swapping out the harness plugs. Mess it up, and it'll never work right.

OP: What's wrong with the turbo car that you'd rather do the engine swap instead of driving it?

All connectors on the MOTOR are same except O2 sensor & CS injector.

My 89 for sale has a 91 motor I put in it. All matched except above.

The best thing to do is get a 91 harness and ecu for your car. And sell what you have.
