I just picked up a 1987 supra from a guy that lived near me. He said he thinks he's in the 400hp range with the current setup. Here's the setup so far........

hks 2.0mm stopper head gasket
arp head studs @ 120lbs torque
57 trim ct26 turbonetics rebuilt turbo with lightened internals @13psi
greddy intercooler with hard piping to match
lipp 3" turbo elbow. with EGT bung.
greddy complete 3" exhaust
greddy bov
k&n intake
web 261e cams
paxxin adjustable fuel regulator
walbro 255 fuel pump
greddy spec 2 boost controller
hks FCD with very rare hks ecu wiring splice

I think I have a long ways to go still before I can reach 500rwhp but Im not an expert. On my list to get is......

680cc injectors
Apexi AFC Neo
one piece driveshaft
BIC DDP
BIC Test Pipe
Fluidyne Radiator

Can I get some suggestions please from some experienced supra owners? This is my first serious build on a supra. Thanks

your not going to see 500 with that turbo. but you'll still see some good power out of that one if its healthy.

Yea i figured that. I was thinking about going with the Boss Sr Series Stage 5 TO4E 61 turbo since its rated at 600hp.

120lbs on the head bolts dammmm. i think you would have 400 to the crank.

Yea. Well he didnt say it was at the crank or to the wheels. Im assuming at the crank also. About how much is that to the wheels?

To supply the fuel needed to support those 680 cc/min injectors at a sufficient pressure, you'll need something larger than a single Walbro pump. You'll either need two in-tank pumps, or you will need an external pump. You will also need larger diameter fuel supply and return lines and proper wiring and relays to support the extra current dictated by the increased pumping power.

With sufficient fuel supply, controlling those large injectors is not a trivial matter. Going to a standalone ECU requires significant knowledge in engine management theory and the willingness to invest significant time, money and patience. If you are really after 500+ RWHP you are also going to require a turbo that will give up significant torque below 4000 RPM for increased top end torque.

Or..... You can run a Lexus AFM, size your turbo for the maximum fuel that can be supplied with 550 cc/min injectors and a simple in-tank pump swap. You will then enjoy a much broader powerband and the reliability and driveability of having the TCCS in place. Sure, you'll likely be limited to a maximum power of 400-450 RWHP if you go the later route, but the returns diminish quickly on multiple fronts (reliability, driveability, etc.) otherwise.

You can probably guess how my car is currently setup. Over the last 10 years I don't know how many times I've seen folks go the former route vs. the later, and then quickly become disillusioned with their car.

Wow, I can't imagin the cylinder distorsion around the stud holes with that much over torque :aigo:

Did this guy build chevys before he did the Supra ?
You know, ' a little is good, then a whole lot is better ' type thinking.

I have the a Boss turbo 60-1 with 580ccPTE injectors and with some race gas, I'm shooting for 500rwhp, I'll probably do it very soon! 680's you can control with a piggy back ecu, but it's very hard. I had 680's on this setup before and the 580's are so much better and will get me to 500rwhp with some race gas. I have a LEX AFM and HKS SAFR, afpr, walbro, and everything else to support it though. 500rwhp is the limit on where I want to take this.

Thanks for that info. Im taking notes on all this feedback so keep it coming

I'm not sure if he did previously or not. But I do know he was talking about buying an old school muscle in the near future.

I did 511 rwhp on a stock 7M on a stock ECU.
My major mods were: Lexus AFM, 550cc injectors, AFC, HKS FCD, 61mm turbo, HKS Ex manifold, AMS intercooler. I had it up to 24psi using race gas to get to 511rwhp. I started to run lean on the 24psi run. Also my compression was a little low on one cylinder, so I could have made more with a healthier engine.

Do a bit of reading up on Brad (tekdeus) and his setup. He's just laid down well over 500 rwhp on a 7M with stock internals, just an upgraded head gasket.

As I recall he uses the 550cc injectors and a meth/water injection kit with a GT35R.

With that said, I'm certain he doesn't have any room for error on this setup. Personally, I wouldn't go this far without some forged internals.

I'd suggest reading a couple articles...

Nice. Ill have to check out his setup. Ive been interested in the GT35R but alot of people keep telling me its overkill

My recipe everyone does their own but here is the down right cheapest way to get there. Mind you you'll be a hair over 5 or a hair under. but not much more over.

-RX7 550's or new 680's
-Walbro
-Emanage Blue
-SP61GT or boss equivalent
-Hard pipes.
-3" elbow/dp/catback no cats.
-AFPR (I like automotive)
-20 PSI with a mix of race gas or meth/water injection.

Finished.

Similar setup dynoed 438 @ 16 psi.

that would mean he is putting the duty cycle for those injectors way past 80% range. I thought that was a no no, even with a proper tune? hence why the majority of the people from this site say don’t do 440’s and afm.

am i wrong?
