My good friend got screwed over big time. He was working at an automotive shop (only he and the boss work there, and to be honest, his boss does none of the work, unless you call talking on the phone and cashing checks working.)... so he goes into work last tuesday to find that all of his tools, performance car parts, files, money, and 3 cars (including my supra) had been stolen. His boss said to get off the property or he would call the cops and called him a thief, so he left. He went to the cops to file a report, but they gave him some BS "it's a civil dispute". He would've filed a stolen vehicle report, but his files had been stolen. I'm going to file the supra as stolen tomorrow. My friend's boss broke both of his phones and threw away my contact info so I couldn't be contacted... so i just now found out about this.

cliffs: bunch of stuff got stolen by my friend's boss @ an auto shop.... the cops won't help him out and say "it's a civil dispute"

anyone got any advice?

I'm no lawyer, but if he didn't file a police report on stolen property I'm pretty sure you could find him criminally negligent, not to mention he should have insurance...

That right there is illegal and can be prosecuted. It also shows the boss hiding evidence if he destroyed contact means for one of the stolen item's owner.

Sounds like the owner staged a theft...

alright... i'm going to see what can be done tomorrow, and i'll get a hold of him, and make sure he does all that he can to file a report. the va beach police/legal system is ROYALLY FUCKED though, so i don't know how this'll pan out.

he did try to file a report, but, like i said they told him it was a "civil dispute"

the cops there seem to be jackasses and i was kind of wandering if he would be better off going to the sheriff to file a report... but, i don't even know if this is plausible.

Why are you wasting time asking a bunch of car geeks..CALL A LAWYER dumbass

yeah, sounds like this "boss" doesnt give a shit about anything... but if he doesnt do any work there whats the point of him not caring about the tools? obvisouly he didnt like your friend much...

im kinda interested in the boss's side of the story though... sounds like an interesting one.

well the whole lawyer deal isn't going to cut it... seeing as i have no $$$!!!! not to mention this guy has a kick-ass lawyer that's gotten him off of worse charges than stolen property. not to mention the legal system in va beach is FUCKED.

and the "boss's side of the story" won't be anything but pure bullshit, seeing as he stole thousands of dollars of tools, parts, and vehicles for no apparent reason! the only thing i can figure is maybee the boss man is in some kind of financial trouble.... but then again, my friend was about to buy all of the equipment in the shop ($190k) and take over running it this very week!

ouch, your Supra was stolen? I've been there, wooo wee how I've been there. Was your car being worked on in the shop? If so, he should have insurance to cover it, if not then you can sue for that, max in small claims court is a few thousand, hopefully enough to cover your car, otherwise it doesn't seem like much else can be done, considering your financial situation..

yeh, it was being worked on... thought i could trust the boss... i actually knew the guy. one of my best friends worked there with the boss (the car was in my friend's possesion) car was getting cage, paint, head work, built bottom end+ a whole lot more... already had a lot of $ into it.

i tried to file a stolen vehicle report today, but the cops here in nc wouldn't let me (although they said they would if the va beach police wouldn't) they want my friend to try again to file a report in va beach (recall he tried to do this the day everything was stolen, but those assholes gave him the runaround)
