while driving home from a friends house the other night i was boosting the car on the highway a bit. mainly from 60 to 90mph. when i got off the highway and pulled to a stop, the car was smoking like crazy from under the hood. i popped the hood and noticed a noise that sounded like pressure was being released from someplace and also anti-freeze on the top of the motor cover and all around the base of the motor.

me and some friends came to the conclusion that it was a blown head gasket. there could be more but for now thats all i know. now the motor is being dis assembled for further review.

im looking for some advice on what steps are recomended and what kind and size of head gasket to get.

also, while repairing the head gasket i was thinking about a possible bottom end rebuild. the car only has 96,000 miles, so is this necessary and if so what is recomended for upgrades.... thanx, Anthony

size of HG depends on how much material is taken off of the block and head when it gets ready for the MHG. forged internals are always nice, as they will let you have alot more power later on. when you get the HG done, get the berrings replaced while your at it.

Figure out what your goals are for the car and that will determine the path you take.
The stock botom end is good for quite a bit of HP.
As mentioned the amount of machining on the head will tell you what size gasket you need. That plus if the block deck need to be machined for a MHG.
At a minimum you should have a machine shop go thru the bottom end and tell you if the cly are good or if you need to oversize. new rings, bearings, oil pump.

Antifreeze on the motor and you instantly think it is a blown headgasket? Try looking at the many coolent hoses that run all over the motor. Coolent lines to the turbo, back of the head, to the heater valve, short hose from thermostat to block, coolent hose on the bottom of the throttle body. Any of these split and you would have coolent all over the motor. Most blown headgaskets on a 7m only put coolent in the form of white, thick, sweet smelling fog out the tailpipe. Kinda looks like a fog machine in the club. Hope you did not tear the motor down for nothing.

Im with Larson... I have an odd new leak at the front under my power steering res...

I am betting that its a loose hose or the hose is bad... Im not overheating but I am loosing coolant. (yes the car is parked) I am pissed because I am losing syntec oil out my cps also....

Its covered under the headgasket install warranty though.... I have a couple more months on that before I can play with the car... No boost upgrades until its out of warranty as they will void me.
