Ok, now I don't want to step on any toes, I know Supras are badass and I've been itchin for one for a while, but... Please tell me why I decided to get involved with a car that's most common problems are completely debilitating?! I'm talking about the rod knock and blown head gaskets! And exspensive! Everthing I've had to buy so far has seemed pretty pricey. As I look at doing head gaskets on both and a valve job on one of my Supras I'm starting to wonder why I didn't pick a Corrola or another Civic.

Should get good feedback from this. Thanks in advance!

lack of researchs + purchasing a highly soughtafter import name + lack of availability of parts = WHY ITS SO EXPENSIVE..

all cars have their problems, these cars are over 20 years old, and on top of that they get driven really hard. always check the car out real good before you buy it, BHGs come from mainly improper care or from the previous owners improper care.
the 7mge, will last a while, and requires less maintance than the gte, but it still requires alot,
Older car= more expensive parts, essecially if the company pretty much disowns it, and trys to stay away from it.

Supra get rod knock and everything else because of lack of maint.

Rebuild her, spend the cash, and take care of her and watch it live longer than any civic.

And put this to the test-

Would you rather tell someone you own a corolla, or that you own A Toyota Supra? :naughty:

The 3vze 3.0L V6 in my 92 4Runner has cost me more than my Supra for headgasket replacement. I picked up a standard 4Runner gasket set and headbolts for the same price as a Gasket set, HKS MHG and ARP Studs. If I want exhaust headers for the 3vze it is about $500 plus install. Use good parts, build it right and take carre of it and it will last.

Thanks. That's the plan though- fix my cars properly and drive the hell out it some more! With proper and loving maintnence of course, since I plan to keep one for at least a couple more years. I just got a little frustrated for a minute looking at what was ahead of me. By comparison I also have a '89 pontiac gran prix (don't laugh, got it for almost free) that has only 84,000 miles, runs and drives almost perfect, but interior and paint is absolutely disentegrating. Just lack of quality I guess. Both my Supra's interiors are worlds better, due to some better japanese quality. I'm in this Supra for real now!!!

BTW, my 88 CRXsi with 180k miles that I sold to a crackhead was still running when he got it impounded in Louisiana. He had it for over a year and sure did absolutely no maintnence!

But, yes, I'd rather say I have a Toyota Supra!

I had my car blew up the motor the first year of ownership due to lack of maintanance by the previous owners and mack of knowledge of the supra. Now i have jdm ge for almost a year to do the day and the only issue ive had is two hoses bust on me thats it.I love my supra, i cant in it day and day out and not worry about nothing except my speed limit.Do it all right the first time and she will take care of you.

Yes my car is daily driven, and yes during school i drive 50+ miles one way and its only left me stranded once in two years.

To make a long story short...., You now own a piece of history. Think of it like tattoos. It's a lifestyle. You are either cool enough to make it happen or you aren't. Oh and buy a bigger toolbox because the one you have now needs to live in the hatchback.

it seems like I am always defending my supra buy saying the guy that had it before me had no clue as to how to work on the thing. I am having a hard time finding anyone that wants to work on my 91 simply because of the reputation of the car. mechanics see them pull in and figure that you have already done so much to the car that it isn't worth there time to work on them and they politely turn me away. buy more tools!!!!!!!!!! and a tsrm

A Supra is a well built car. Granted the HG is a design defficiency, but it is one that can be fixed. There are lots of cars out there with design flaws that are near impossible to fix. Also there are a lot of things we just take for granted on the Supra. Fully adjustable suspension, the ability to just bolt on larger tires, a turbo/intercooler setup that supports 12psi safely, an ECU that plays well with piggybacks, a well built drivetrain, a well designed motor except the HG :), the list goes on. You step into something like a Civic and you're lucky if you can run 12psi without throwing a rod out the side, or destroying the drivetrain on a hard launch. The Supra is as reliable as any new car if properly treated, abused it will take a multi thousand dollar dump on you.

^^ What he said.
I wouldn't be afraid to drive my car anywhere.(Except for the frightening cost of gasoline) My car performs like a brand new sports car. Also can state that I run 12 PSI on stock turbo and stock IC (want to upgrade my IC soon but sure it's capable of 12 PSI).
