ive searched the forum but havnt found anything. and im dont have much experience with timing so i could serious use a hand

ok i set my crank at 0 and have the cam gears lined up so im sure timing is right.
just when i try to strat it, it starts sputtering kinda like its about to back fire...

can someone direct me to picturs on how to adjust the cps to 10??

because thats the only thing that makes sense to me about it sputtering and about to backfire..:1zhelp:

---------- Post added at 05:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:27 PM ----------

iv read about twisting the cps while cranks at 0 tdc until the crank gets to 10 btdc just have no idea how to do

i loosened the bolt and twisted the crap out of it and the crank just stayed a 0 tdc. and looked and saw the crank hasnt moved.

does this mean my cam and cps gears arent lined up??

I just noticed something in your first post;

Twisting your cps won't cause the crankshaft pulley itself to move. You're confusing the notion that when you have the engine running with a timing light set on the crank pulley slight rotation of the cps will cause the timing light to strobe on different degree increments marked on the crank pulley. The pulley will not move based on the cps rotating. I hope you didn't twist it too ferociously it is a very sensitive piece of equipment. If you have your crank at 0 degrees, #1 piston at TDC, Cam alignment correct in the head, and cps set up the way shaeff clearly describes in the article, and your car is still not starting then you likely have problems elsewhere. Maybe in the TPS calibration or in the coil pack. Good Luck.
