:1zhelp:I got my 90t, found the airbag wires were cut in the steering column, along with cruise control/horn. Got the missing parts, put it back together, but was too scared to plug the airbag back in. Must've been cut for a reason. Decided to ask the service dept about it while I was picking up parts at the toyota dealer. (Saturday fun - clean up your supra, drive through the toyota dealership lot and watch all the customers and staff STARE..) So I was talking to one of the mechanics there, and although they were very busy, agreed to take a peek at the car (being females helps here, sorry guys!). So I pulled it in and immediately two more mechanics half my age pop over (depressing!) and are ogling the car. The first mechanic quickly discovers the DS front fender had been replaced, and both front airbag sensors up front are missing. Found the wires that had been cut and taped up. He shook his head and said it would be alot of time and money ($99 per hour!). He also noted that the airbag light doesn't come on when the key is turned. He took a jumper wire to a little box under the hood (excuse me if I get too technical here) and he couldn't cause the airbag light to come on. He felt the the ECU was malfunctioning.

First of all, is this guy full of *()&^ about the ECU? I can get all the parts and take a crack at installing it all, and have the dealer go over it, test it and plug it in. However, I did some searches on here and some think the airbag isn't worth the trouble. My Toyota manual says never install used airbag sensors/wiring, suggests replacing all airbag wiring if the car has been in a wreck. I need some opinions here! I know airbags save lives, so how can I put a price on that?

I have all the airbag components that I can sell you i.e. control unit, sensors, and another airbag from my 92. I did an abs delete on my car. My car was never in an accident so I would assume everything works properly.

I wouldnt really worry about hooking the airbag up.the air bag controler has what called a safing sensor that need to be tripped (g-force from a collision) in order to complete the circuit and triger the airbag.ofcourse, it sounds like you got a case of major cluster fuck going on in there so what i would recomend is replace ALL the airbag wiring.as long as you got the battery disconected the airbags REALLY shouldnt deploy lol.unless you got somekinda crazy static spark that triggers them. then connect the battery back up and make sure noones in the driver's seat :icon_bigg

i was told that when you un-install the airbag/steering wheel, you take out the "srs" light in the dash so that way you DONT get the warning from the ECU, which is what i think happened to you...

or they found a way to short the circuit as if the air bag is there... i have no idea! but if thats true i want to know how!!!!!

As Rennat stated, sounds more like a case of missing bulb to cover up tripped SRS computer. If you want it working take csnow up on his offer. I would reccomend going through the trouble of replacing the harness as well. With things cut up and hacked the way you describe there is no telling what else is hidden.

i think it would be cheaper just to run new wires instead of re-install a whole new harness... i mean, its just the airbag system... lol

(im taking mine all out because im getting a momo wheel from my other supra)

SRS harness can be easily seperated from the rest of the harness. Whether it is a rewire or a used install it should be thoroughly checked.

Not really, even with the dash out, it is wound into the main body harness. You would have to untape the entire interior harness to seperate the SRS harness. I was going to remove it but found it to be too much trouble.
