Need help w/ fuel system

while looking at the EFI section of the TSRM today, i saw a picture of the "fuel support".

what is its purpose? is every MK3 supposed to have this? because my 89 n/a doesnt have one. there is some kind of spacer in place of the fuel support... could this have anything to do with my below average gas mileage? thanks!

Um... it holds it in place.

Its just a bracket just look closer lol.

i was referring to the cylindrical piece that the bracket is holding in place, the piece that both fuel lines connect to. because it looks like the size of a fuel filter or something like that from the looks of the pic. thanks for the sarcastic response though!

That's just a mount for the fuel lines. The connection on the bottom is for the line from the tank...the top is for the line going to the FPD on the rear of the fuel rail. It surves no other purpose than to connect the two lines.
