Pull up the rubber boot and you'll see a small metal plate with 4 bolts... remove the bolts and remove the shifter. Might want to put the shifter in neutral before you pull it, some find that makes it easier to get back in.

and while your at it, have you changed your transmission fluid? easiest way to put the stuff in is while you have the shifter out!

Yeah...found that out yesterday.....changed my fluid and used the pump method under the car....didn't want to pull the console and shifter again since I recently did it already....next time I'm going that route!!

you don't need to take the shifter appart...just remove the bolts from the boot and the bolts that hold it into the trans...

but then how do you slide the shift boot off of the shifter? you need to take the shift knob off....

To do the job properly, you still need to get under the car to undo the drain bolt AND the fill bolt to see when it's full.

If you have a hand pump I think the job is easy either way. Car needs to be on 4 jackstands and both bolts on tranny need to be removed whichever route you take.

Don't have 4 jackstands, but I got'er dun. Pump method wasn't so much a bitch as it was messy....cheap li'l Harbor Freight pump that started leaking....I think the diff fluid is the easiest thing to change on this car...lol.

Use Redline MT-90....it doesn't smell like gear oil (thank god)

On a side note, BE CAREFUL with the boots, if they get ripped you're screwed and heat/smell will leak in easier.

thanks for da help everyone i got the job done and it was really easy .taking iff the second set of 4 screws way the worst part the angle sucked............

so i was thinking to change the tranny fluid cant i just drain from under the car and then recap. and fill the hole that holds the shifter with 3 or 4 quarts.?i think it would work correct me if im wrong .no measuring and no pumping required and you still know how much you put in.

If you overfill you'll blow the rear seal. Put the car on 4 jackstands on a level surface, pull the fill plug first, then pull the drain plug. Once it's empty, replace drain plug, fill through shifter hole until it comes out fill plug then replace the fill plug and put the shifter back in...

The reason I say 4 jackstands is because the car needs to be level to get an accurate fill.

Doesn't take anywhere near 3 or 4 quarts. IIRC, it's closer to 2 quarts. And no, that method wold not work because when you drain the old oil out, you don't get every last bit out. You could just put in slightly less than the full capacity after draining and get close, but if you are going through the trouble of changing it out, why not do it right?
