ok so today i thought i was getting my Supra out of my buddies shop( headgasket change and such), when i get a call saying that because of the holiday that the cylinder head shops are not open, he is gunna have to wait til next Monday or Tuesday to finish her up, ok i can deal with that. 2 hours later he calls again and ask me how much i know about this car and i said not much. So then he goes on to tell me that there is shaft play in the turbo(not sure how much) and that he found lots of oil in the Intercooler. what are possible reasons for this?

Lazy people: Oil in intercooler, shaft play in turbo

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS AT THIS POINT??????????

I havent cried in a reallllllllllly long time but this ones pushin it.

There should be be SOME oil in the intercooler, thats just natural. And as for shaft play,it really depends on how much. If it's alot, then you probably have a oil seal in the turbo going bad, hence the oil in the intercooler. The seal should not be difficult to replace by an experienced shop.

Your PCV system will deposit oil in the IC as well - make certain you get a compression test done when it's back together.

Turbo shaft play isn't that big of a deal, you can get it rebuilt for a reasonable price, or pick up a working used one for even less.

Cheer up, this really isn't a very serious set of problems. :D

truth, dont let him touch your turbo until you confirm with someone that knows turbos/supras intimately.

How do you explain a loud screaming and little to no play?

Either the girl said no and meant it, or you've got a loose bolt in the exhaust manifold. Careful though, my loose bolt turned out to be a stripped threads in the block, which resulted in me pulling the head to helicoil them all (among other things I decided would be a good idea to do at the same time)

Well, the thing is that it hits 18-19 psi by 3K every time, and pulls like a bat out of hell until 4500 or so, and then the gate closes, and it sounds like satan is trying to climb out of the front of the turbo. Boost drops to 10 psi or so, but it still makes 300 hp, and still hauls ass...

UPDATE: as he progressed further he found that to camshafts are chewed up and that had caused them to chew shit up inside the head. the oil in the intercooler was probably just what you guys said it was, but as a precaution he is replacing the piston rings, additionally while the engine is now all the way out he is gunna replace the the main/rod bearings and the rod bolts(ARP)
but for now i need new CAMS

Lazy Person: I NEED NEW CAMSHAFTS.

$35 an hour and you're going to end up replacing a shitload of parts you don't need to so bottom line will be much the same....

Unless you buy brand new Cams any you find will be scored on the journals as I said it's normal for a 7M.
And guess what in 1000 miles your new ones will be scored as well ...

i'll have to take a loook at the cams myself he said they were pretty well fucked but i trust this guy with my life man he does everything right, hes worked on all the cars in my family and my Prelude. If they are in fact terrible i already found some new ones to buy.
