Long story short my warrior 350 needs a new carb. The question is do i buy a factory yamaha carb for around 300 or an edelbrock carb for around 400. I like the idea of hp gain while fixing something, but i dont want to find out that the carb is finiky or junk the hard way. Looking for someone that has seen a edelbrock carb on a quad.

Can't just rebuild old one?

Long story short, local shop trashed mine.

Long story long not overly familiar with carbs. needed a rebuild so so i attempted it myself. I probably succeded for the most part but during the same time period the locknut on the exhaust valve backed off and the valve wasnt closing completely. obviously the bike ran like shit and i assumed it was my attempt to rebuild the carb so i brought it to what i thought was a good shop (brockton cycle center, which is a yamaha dealer) so they also thought the problem was the carb and rebuilt it and repaired it which consisted of drilling out several things, including the accelerator pump rod, which i know wasnt stuck cuz i played with it. "fixed" the carb, then found the valve problem. I took it home and adjusted the valve and dropped it off again so that they could jet it properly. picked it up and it still ran like shit. They blamed it on an electrical problem said i had weak spark. I believed them and spent the last few months searcing for an elecrical fault that didnt exist. Also replaced the battery, primary coil, and cdi during this quest. Couldnt figure it out so i broght it to a more reputable shop (bettencourts, which isnt a yamaha dealer) The took a look at it and concluded there was no electrical problem, the problem was the carb, which they took apart and discoverd BCC completely fucked it up. showed me the carb was trash and my best bet was to just replace it. Back to square one. Ordered a rebuilt carb of ebay last night for 200 bucks. It was from a guy that only sells carbs that he rebuilds and he had a 100% feedback with like 475 points, so hes doing something right, hopefully this will be the end and i can finally ride my quad again.

Its funny, wether it be cars quads or whatever, I only bring things to a shop when i cant figure them out, and not once in six years have a dropped something off to get fixed and picked it up fixed. Its a good thing i can fix most things myself, otherwise id be completely fucked.

99% of carbs never need rebuilt....just cleaned as there isn't any wear parts in carbs;-)

the way I clean carbs is...well, very sketchy but works.....get a cheap BBQ and put a big pot on it (1gallon if possible)...fill it half full with gas and carb cleaner mixed...take carb float bowl off....drop carb and all parts into pot and slowly heat till boil....let boil for 30 then carb should look new and replace o rings and she should be good!

Now that I have access to ultrasonic cleaners I don't do this anymore I might add! If you're an idiot then don't do this but if you have some common sense it's pretty safe.

I'm pretty sure most idiots don't know they are until they no longer can grow back eyebrows or arm hair!:icon_razz

Well then that would be the indication for them then....now they know! Carbs are a stupidly simple piece of shit...little bit of dirt will make them act funny but that doesn't mean they need built! Replace some orings and clean it and you're good...there generally are no bearings to go bad...they take absolutly no load...then have no fast moving parts...

So i got the replacement carb the other day. Threw it on and the quad rips harder than ever, its like its a new bike. Couldn't be happier with the outcome...cept now i wanna go fist fight the dumbasses at brockton cycle center (or at least get my money back, but thats never gonna happen)
