Hello everyone, I plan on doing a 2jzgte swap into my 88' mk3 this summer and I have been researching the parts I would need and the prices so I can save as much as I can. I kinda stopped at a stand still when I couldnt find out some information. Here's what I know I have to get.

2jzgte (usdm or jdm) motor $1800-- or clip $2900
1jzgte bellhousing - $300
1jzgte flywheel - $270
BIC motor mounts - $170
intercooler and piping - $350

Now, the only two questions I have is about the downpipe for the 2jzgte. I've heard the USDM turbos and the JDM turbos have different diameter downpipes. Would a stock one from a clip bolt up to my blitz nurspec exhaust?

Last of all, is the wiring. I've asked around and have been told that the 1jzgte wiring harness for the MK3 is plug in play with the 2jzgte, Except for the ISC wiring (idle speed control). what I want to do is buy a motor for under 2,000 and save the money from buying a clip and put that money into buying a standalone like Aaron's EMS he sells. The problem I suppose is that I am an idiot when it comes to this.

  • Do i just need a cut 2jzgte harness + the EMS and connect them and im done??
  • If I do what I said above, will my blinkers and lights all work, or is that a completely different electrical thing that I dont have to worry about?

Hopefully if me and my bro do all of the labor ourselves I will be able to have a standalone 2jzgte w/ stock twins in my car for $5,000-$6,000. That is my goal atleast. Any help or links to information will be appreciated!

^^ I saw that..

I want to combine the two things I really love, the mk4, and the mk3. I don't think I want a 1jzgte for a few reasons. It's considered normal now, and its what every one else is doing because its cheaper. But when have I ever said to buy something because it was Cheaper?! I sure didn't spend less when it came to my motor, or my quad. Right?.. I don't think I will be satisfied 100% if i got a 1jz. Every time I look at the motor I think its ugly, worse than the 7mgte if you ask me.

Plus, Aftermarket parts. Once I get a raise or two after 2-3 years of working where I am at, I plan on going big. :biglaugh:

a cut harness joe.. will put me in a world of head achs and sleepless nights.. but yes i could get it to work.

it would take lots of lengthin and soldering wires, replacing connectors heat shrink, and before i could start to tackle this, i would need the ems you are going with,

as far as the lights blinkers, and so on, in your second question,.

the lights/blinkers should work like normal, the problems i will run into is, getting the tach feed right. so it works correctly. oil pressure, water temp (maybe_ i know the dash temp is ran from a different wire for the mk3, then what the ecu see's, so if the jz is the same way then your temp fore the dash wont be affected.)

your stock boost gauge i will replace with either an after market unit, or a stock volt unit, and do a boost gauge in a piller pod or cig lighter like mine, or below your stereo.

speedo wont be affected..

and as far as the jdm dp is it bigger or smaller?

the jdm 2jzgte has a smaller diameter for the downpipe while the USDM 2jzgte has a larger diameter.

It looks like we will just have to use whatever downpipe we receive with the motor/clip, and cut it up and weld it together to get it to mate with my downpipe.

I was told the the 1jz harness for the mk3 works for the 2jz motor aswell, so if we followed the instructions and guides for the 1jz swap *and find out how they got the 1jz harness / or whatever.. to work with the gauges you mentioned*

we would just have to rewire the idle thing.

Cut harness isn't bad. Just pull the clips you want out of the harness and bam, no wires to find or colors to compare. Put it on, measure, solder, and cover.

1J and 2J look almost identical except for the spark plug cover, which can be changed or removed. but a 1J is ugly and a 2J is not? How does that work? :ugh2:

i think he just like the newer shinny cover?

Like I said, that can be changed easily. Which shiny cover do you mean?

I don't understand how 1J and 2J look extremely similar but 1J is ugly. :dunno:

Yes, the extra .5 litres, the different head and stronger internals, and the HUGE after market support for the 2jzgte makes me willing to spend 2,000 dollars More for a 2jzgte over the 1jzgte.

im using a 1jz harness.. i've verified the wiring on hte ISC its the same..

just use the 2jz harness if it comes with it.. doesn't seem that bad to wire up..

yea the aristo/jdm 2jz dp flange is smaller (like 2.25") where as the usdm is 3"

Cool tissimo, Im glad you verified that the ICS is the same. What I plan on doing is finding a USDM 2jzgte motor by itself, without a harness. Then buy a new 1jzgte harness from toyota, and use BigAarons EMS with the plug and play adapter for the 1jz. This way, I wont have to cut the harness, at ALL, full standalone... happy happy. Done for under 4k aswell. Its just a little hard to find a used USDM 2jzgte for under 2k.

Have you found out why your motor was idling wierd?

99% sure its the tune.. all i did was load in a map similar to mine and adjust the map sensor for my 3.5bar.. so havn't messed with it at all.. it idles high (~2500) but if i move the car the rpms drop and are steady ~ 1k.. i'm not even sure what the map is set up for idle rpm.. lol.. car still needs work, wire up fans, finish ic piping, etc.. havn't messed with the tunning at all yet..
