The 7M is definitly what I would do in your case. Yes it is mostly polug and play, it will mate up to your tranny and mounts. Some electrical items need to be addressed however. The 7M is far easier and is cheaper to get then the 1J and has more displacement. What is the saying...? There is no replacement for displacement. The N/A auto tranny will not lst long even under stock turbo conditions. I would say plan for a manual tranny, others if you're really into autos for drag racing get a 3 or 4 speed GM, something meant to take abuse, like a TH400.

Well, to swap in a manual you are going to need a clutch pedal assembly and a master cylinder. Also a line groing from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder. A manual flywheel instead of a flexplate and the rest should generally be considered part of the transmission assembly. I would suggest the R154 over the W58 as it is known to be stronger. I do not know for sure on whether or not you need a manual ECU. I have heard of built 7M autos, however I do not know who has them or who builds them. In the long run I say a manual is cheaper, not to mention preferred for eveything but drag racing.

The manual sway is pretty much straight forward.

You will need obviously the flywheel and clutch peices, the hydraulic components, and the clutch and brake pedal assembly, trans mount and crossmember, and driveshaft.

Installing the pedal assembly is the only hard part. Everything else is simple and straight forward.

Buying a manual car and swaping just the tranny (if originally a N/A) would be far easier, but the auto to manual swap is not that bad.
