I'm still not finding it. is it possible that there is no VSV on an 88 but there is on an 87 ( using 87 wiring harness)

definitely a vsv plug. there is two of them. the first is with the group of wires that drops down in the rear hole of the lower intake plenum (i.e. the starter plug, transmission plug,...etc.) this vsv is usually easy to find. the other, is with a knock sensor plug under the first runner like the other guy said and it is all the way under there up close to the block. sorry i can not explain this verbally as well as i could visually with a drawing. the vsv in the front of the motor is the fuel pressure up vsv and the one in the back is for the egr valve. IMO you need neither if you bypass the vacuum lines for the fpu vsv and dont use the egr (or get block off plates.*preferrably* )

If your still looking for the VSV's here is where they are located:

As for what to remove on the EGR system. Remove what is shown in this next image minus the DP Diaphragm, VTV, and air filter. As for the hole left if you decide to remove the BVSV, that is where I placed my mechanical temp sending unit. It's not perfect as it only reads accurate after the thermostat opens up.

If you remove the Charcoal Canister you need to either reroute the gas tank vent out side the engine bay or plug the pipe and get a vented gas cap.

As for what to block off, the two circled areas show the places the block off plates go.

If you need EGR block off plates, you can get some from JBLMK3. One of the site sponsors. Follow his link from the main page.

as for that last pic, the circled area on the LEFT you DO NOT block off. you put the second block off plate over the open hole on the UPPER intake mani.

and when/if you do the EGR block off, you can eliminate the rear VSV....but yeah that plug goes to one of the VSV's under the intake.

 Oops!! Your right! Don't know what I was thinking when I said that. I know better. I don't have a real good picture of where the area that you need to block off on the Upper intake manifold is. But this one should give you a good enough idea of where the second block off plate goes.

that plug under the TB is the fuel pressure Up VSV. the plug for the EGR VSV is located on the harness closer to the firewall. its also brown, like an injector clip.

just fold it back and tape it to the harness for a stock appearance.
